Re: Wakamatsu films available on VoD

"The Embryo hunts in Secret" is awesome. A masterpiece. "Go go, second time Virgin", on the other hand, I found a little overrated. Too many themes in there which get into each others ways; Wakamatsu should've only stuck to one and make it as a strong as possible. I also found the constant switching...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Love Exposure (Japan, 2008) - 5/5 I shall write more once I manage to get my thoughts together. But in brief; Sion Sono's 237 minute Catholism / upskirt shotography epic is possibly the decade's most impressive and memorable achievement. This is to 2000's what Fight Club was to 1990's. TOLD YOU TOL...

Re: Recent and not so recent Japanese dramas

Thanks for the Review. "Kimi no Tomodachi" looks like a movie I might enjoy; after all I missed it on last year's
Viennale-Festival. By the way, if you're still interested, there are now fan-subs available for "Two in Tracksuits".

Or are you fluent in Japanese yet? :D

For starters, I read somwhere that it's far less bloody and exploitative, because it's been made for Television in the first place.

Takashi Miikes "Ley Lines" (RC-1 Artsmagic vs. RC-2 Japan)

One of my favorite Miike-Movies (besides "Audition") must be "Ley Lines". Sadly there doesn't seem to a DVD available with decent image, so the problem may very well lie within the source-material, cheap equipment etc. After all this is a Low-Budget Movie. There's an issue with dark scenes being INC...

The Beyond (Italy, 1981) – 4/5 Godfather of Gore Lucio Fulci’s legendary horror film. American woman inherits a hotel in Louisiana. Turns out the hotel is one of the seven gateways to hell. Violent deaths begin to appear, and finally all hell breaks loose and a zombie invasion begins. Every death i...

6/10 for such an average (at best) and poorly acted movie? I gave it even more. :P I thought it was great, also the acting was fine with me. It feels like a nostalgic retake on everything 70s Chanbara movies were about; nothing new, true, but the cinematography's nice, the soundtrack epic and Haruk...

I gave it an 4/5, not because I agree with the moral issues raised within the movie, but just because it's so effective. And that's all that matters when talking about an exploitation flick; they're beyond good or bad, they can only be effective or leave you cold. Just for the record: Wes Craven's "...

- Italian/Spanish Spaghetti Western (you gotta have a hobby besides Japanese films :D) - Anime Series (GitS: SAC, Serial Experiments Lain, Cowboy Bebop, Paranoia Agent) - More Miike Movies (currently I've watched 27) - I'm almost through with the work of Takashi Ishii, so I may just as well move to ...

Haven't watched it yet, but I still have so many DVDs lying around here to go through, so I don't wanna start with the best.
Since Hung Fist's been hyping this movie, I'll expect nothing less than a hugely entertaining masterpiece.

I have to get "Tokyo!" as well. Is it also available on DVD, or just on Blu-Ray? Anyway, I got myself this (192-minute TV-feature from 1985, which also covers "Through the Looking Glass", and is arguably the most faithful and charming adaption of Lewis Carrols's story ever): http://img.photobucket.c...

I saw the trailer for Crows, and I'm not sure if I'd like it. I like the premise, but maybe not the excecution. Seems to have the quick cuts and flashy angles and stuff... It's not a martial arts movie, so stuff like that shouldn't be your primary concern. And, yes, from what I've seen, it has quit...

OSS 117 is a french Spy-Comedy, with a deliberate vintage feel (e.g. cheesy Blue Screen Effects like in the 50s). Haven't seen it yet, but it's supposed to be hillarious and very entertaining.
