Skinner (USA, 1993) [BD] – 2.5/5
Ted Raimi is a guy called Skinner who walks around skinning hookers.
His mother must be so disapointed ;)

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

It had Home Alone vibes.
Some thoughts: When Rambo accuses his neice's friend of selling her - was it true? Also when it's revealed the absent dad is an asshole who never loved her, it's not really mentioned again, why?

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

First Blood: 4.25/5
Solid first film

Rambo: Last Blood: 3.5/5
This felt as though someone decided to make a Mexican-set version of Taken with Sly in the lead, I still enjoyed it though.
The last act is similar to a certain 90's Christmas movie... ;)

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Rambo AKA John Rambo (2007): 4/5

Dark, violent and intense action drama with a brooding Stallone performance. I felt the use of CGI/effects kills stood out, but that's inevitable these days I guess. There was some brutal stuff. Still very good nonetheless.

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Joker (2019): 4/5 Dark and disturbing character study - Joaquin Phoenix does very well in a complex role and the music is great too. I did notice one of Bob Monkhouse's famous gags was used but it didn't feel right somehow? Strangely I did almost feel kind of sympathetic for Arthur at times (not alw...

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

The Evil Dead (USA, 1982): 4/5 Influential and low budget splatter horror comedy. I say 'comedy' but while there is some slapstick humour, around the time of it's release I believe the film was seen as more serious and scarier than it's latter day reputation (and that of it's sequel) would suggest. ...

Do I need to watch the Rambo movies in "order"?

In a few weeks a cinema near me is showing a double bill of Rambo with First Blood and Last Blood, I've only seen First Blood so far  Is it important to see the other films before seeing Last Blood (which could be the final film, I guess)? Do they contain spoilers or callbacks to the earlier f...

Toy Story 4 (2019): 4.5/5

Though this is an excellent third sequel and much better than I thought it would be, I think that should be the end now

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

The Lion King (2019): 4/5 Visually stunning CGI recreation of the original (the opening sequence is incredible), but that's just it in a way, it's beautiful to look at but doesn't add anything to the story even though the cast are so good (James Earl Jones is back as Mufasa) and the memorable music ...

Do you think Woo ever saw The Creature Called Man, sounds familliar :) He was influenced a lot by Chang Cheh too (and The Killer shares some themes with Le Samourai imo) but who knows

Ordered:
The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (Standard Edition, UK) BD

The Current War (2017): 3.5/5 Tells the story of the battle of late 19th century inventors to be the first to show and produce working electricity on a big scale in the United States (Edison v Tesla). Pokemon: Detective Pikachu (2019): 4/5

Was a Pokemon fan back in the day and enjoyed this a lot, Ryan Reynolds does a great job voicing Pikachu in a buddy-cop/mystery movie with a good story and some excellent design.

Harvey (1950): 4/5 Jimmy Stewart stars in this amusing story about a man whose best friend is a six foot tall rabbit, something which really annoys his family but charms others equally. Interesting to see how mental conditions were viewed back then. Stewart's character is an eccentric but basically ...

Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971): 3.5/5 Not one of Disney's very best, but this film is still worth a watch and holds some nostalgic value for me. Angela Lansbury is wonderful as a slightly dotty apprentice witch who uses her magic to help Britain during World War II. With it's magical plot, music an...

Forgot to mention some of the music in Golden Swallow which has a spaghetti western feel (the trumpet music)
