Re: Unchained Melody: The Films Of Meiko Kaji

Mine shipped yesterday. I usually like Tom Mes books even if I don't always agree with him. Looking forward to this one.

Re: A Night in Nude - Salvation (Takashi Ishii, 2010)

Started watching the HK A Night in Nude: Salvation dvd, my player says it's 1 hour, 51 minutes and 20 seconds long. So 112 minutes, same as the box says.

Really loved Live Tape, especially the feeling of here and now (or maybe then and there :P), looking forward to Tokyo Drifter.

Re: Nikkatsu's Sushi Typhoon + Mizui Maki ( )

Yeah the ending was crazy :D Battlefield Baseball is one of my favorites. I think Deadball really lost the stupid innocense of it and the jokes turned too speculative. But that's how expecations can ruin films for you, I guess. I did enjoy Deadball somewhat though, but the baseball robot was a disap...

I'm not really that bothered by the cgi, the only one were it did become a distraction was in Deadball, it completely lost the charm of Battlefield Baseball. Not just because of the cg, but it was a big part of it.

That would be cool.

Hopefully they would give some newcomers a chance too. As Tom Mes suggested in the Midnight Eye best-of 2011 list, Nikkatsu and Sushi Typhoon could be the new "v-cinema". Or fill the void left by v-cinema.

Hope they'll be back soon, I think they took a really interesting turn with Sion Sono's Cold Fish, would love if they made more films like that and not just did the "crazy japanese" thing. And didn't Yoshinori Chiba produce Sono's Guilty of Romance as well, but not under the Sushi Typhoon banner?

Re: A Night in Nude - Salvation (Takashi Ishii, 2010)

Agreed on the cinematography in Brutal Hopelessness. I did like the original Flower and Snake by Konuma, but not the eighties ones, I think I thought they were a bit too crude while Konuma kept it a bit more arty, it's been a long time since I watched them though. I have Black Angel Vol. 1 and 2 at ...

Does Sushi Typhoon have any films in production right now? Zaborgar seems to be the latest one.

UFC Undisputed 3, better than the earlier releases but as frustrating as ever. What's the deal with those loading times? I spend more time watching loading screens than playing the game.

I also ordered the Hong Kong dvd, really looking forward to this one. It's been a while since I saw something new from Ishii.
I like a lot of his films like the Flower and Snake ones, Freezer, Gonin and Angel Guts: Red Vertigo, but found The Brutal Hopelessness of Love a bit boring.
