Re: Feel like I'm losing my passion for cinema :( Now what?

Sorry should have read Grandmasters: Korean Blu. WKWs preferred cut of the film, and only English friendly release of that cut. ... Where and when (please have source) did Wong Kar-wai state he had a preferred cut of the film I can't find the quote but I've seen it written a few times. Maybe someon...

Re: Feel like I'm losing my passion for cinema :( Now what?

Sorry should have read Grandmasters: Korean Blu. WKWs preferred cut of the film, and only English friendly release of that cut. Some other stuff was changed but version has an extra fight at the end not seen in any other version. Unfortunately it *is* one film that if you really care you need to get...

Re: Feel like I'm losing my passion for cinema :( Now what?

Downloading is the reason all the indie labels go under. I buy to support future releases If they bother releasinga proper uncut version, I'll support them. If not, fuck them. The Grandmaster? Cut. Fuck them. The Raid? No original soundtrack. Fuck them. There's been a bunch of movies I would have l...

Re: Feel like I'm losing my passion for cinema :( Now what?

Another thought about viewing habits Don't put a film on and do another 10 other things at the same time. I'm not obsessive about kit but my favourite setting at home is evening viewing with my amp, tv and DVD player fired up with low lighting. Basically as close to a cinema as possible (but not as ...

Re: Feel like I'm losing my passion for cinema :( Now what?

Some more thoughts/tips Discriminate/have standards. Don't watch films that are unrewarding. Films are like any art form - 99% shit. Rule number one of any art: respect the classics. Study what makes films great. Get more obsessive. Many films are overrated, many chronically underrated. Don't believ...

Re: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - question

My OCD wont allow it :D The theatrical subs might have been the original screenplay, but like any film they adapt and changed dialogue in the filming process. In effect the actors were speaking a new Mandarin draft under Lee's direction. The new subs are a translation of what was actually spoken (sh...

Go to a gala/festival/special screening of something with a good audience. I saw Chinese Zodiac last week and Jackie Chan did a Q&A after the film. One of the most exciting film experiences of my life

Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

I think that's the 'problem' with genre fans. For example as martial art films you could say Ong Bak, Ip Man, The Raid etc are 10/10 films. Against all other films (as I rate stuff) they're more like 7-7.5/10 films. Also people on the Internet tend to talk in extremes 'the film was trash' or 'the fi...

Re: Last 5 years of Asian Martial Arts films in review (2010

Reign of Assassins 4/10 TERRIBLE story. Absolutely awful plot premise and twists that Lo Wei would be proud of. Visually the film is horribly over processed with a pastel colour pallet that makes the plastic weapons look even more plastic, and sets and costumes look bland. Michelle Yeoh puts in a st...

I rented the Blu which wasn't put out under the Cine-Asia label but the new parent company E1. To be honest I didn't notice anything wrong with it but the specs were Mandarin DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and LPCM 2.0 Stereo. According to Rewind the languages are Cantonese only: http://www.dvdcompare.net...
