Re: MY TOP 10 HK MOVIES OF EVERY YEAR 1970-1999

Yeah, those two particular films have their detractors, as I also allude to in the blurbs. Never got the hate for Fulltime Killer though. I think we can all agree that HK cinema was struggling in this past decade, so some of the films here, had they been made ten years earlier, would never had made ...

Re: MY TOP 10 HK MOVIES OF EVERY YEAR 1970-1999

MY TOP 50 FAVORITE HK MOVIES OF THE NAUGHTS PART 1 2000 AD Tight, ambitious and at times pulse pounding hi-tech action thriller from Gordon Chan, with stylish visuals and fleshed out characters. Yeah, the whole Y2K scenario feels a bit dated, but everything else is solid and quite entertaining. A WA...

Re: Asian Film discussion in Non-Asian Magazines

Well I always liked him. But I think you could say his "mature" performances started somewhere between Full Throttle and A True Mob Story. He was good in Fighter's Blues.... the ONLY good thing about that movie.

Re: Asian Film discussion in Non-Asian Magazines

The only reason i'll agree with Wong Jing is that their starting point is '96, and he rejuvenated the Triad genre with the Y&D series and all those other BOB flicks. But after that, what has he really done of note? He was way more influntial in the late 80's early 90's. Their comment on Andy Lau is ...

Im perfectly comfortable with the Schizoid nature of HK cinema. But I don't think Chow's comedies always strikes the all important balance act of components.

I think After This Our Exile was a farly strong drama. Longest Nite made my top ten for '98. Have yet to see that damn Gallants movie.

Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

I was always perplexed by his site. He was peddling 3rd generation VHS copies of films that were readily available in on DVD. As some kind of museum or time capsule... sure. As a business... not so much. Though he did have some genuine rares.

Re: Asian Film discussion in Non-Asian Magazines

Some are good or great films, but I don't see many milestones there. McDull maybe in terms of local animation. Shaolin Soccer in terms of international success and special FX mixed with nonsense comedy and perhaps a few others. But the rest are headscratchers. I belive Grady Hendrix was Grady San on...

Re: Asian Film discussion in Non-Asian Magazines

Nice... feel free to include his paragraphs on my account. Those are some strange ass choices if you ask me. I can see why some of them belong there, and some I have not seen and can't speak on, but on the whole, this is a slightly curious list if we're talking actual milestone movies.

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of

Ugghh... I loathe millenials.....*shaking my cane* In regards to Chows comedy, I also think it's often too uneven dealt out in some films. Like there's a serious love story, some drama and then BAM! total out of left field spoof gag, then back to semi serious stretch. It's not like Naked Gun or Hot ...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of

True. Try putting on a Cagney gangster flick or a Marx Brothers film for a bunch of millenials.... they probably wouldn't understand half the dialogue. If I watch Stephen Chow Moy Lei Tau stuff, I know there are a lot of jokes that im missing, but that's not really what puts me off. For some reason ...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of

I find Stephen Chow flicks really hard to get into. One minute he's making me laugh, and the next he's groan inducingly annoying or just plain unfunny. I usually only steer towards the films of his that has a noteworthy action element to them. Cuz then that can at least be a saving grace if the humo...

So, Mark... I recieved my copy of Death Duel. There is 2.0 Mandarin mono.... whether it's original :dontknow: How do I tell? And regarding picture quality, it's better than the IVL as far as I can see. But that's all I can say really.

Re: Best version of these titles???

Thanks for the info, Mark. I love that there is still stuff for me to discover, with this many years in the game. I guess Ray Lui always kinda flew under my radar, cuz I found him a bit dull. But rewatching some of his films, I took another look at his filmography and these titles popped out, of the...

Guns of Dragon-1993 (Ray Lui, Mark Cheng)

The Hunting List-1994 (Ray Lui, Vivian Hsu)

Thanks....

Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

I thought that too, but I think he means the number of girls, not age.... either way, it's pretty pathetic. Back in the day, this guy use to trash Linn Haynes on Shawscope with pictures he had photoshopped, making fat jokes, gay jokes etc. But guess where he came when Shawscope went down.... sad ass...
