Re: My favorite movies

I'll just give some quick notes to what I think of the ones I watched Terminator 2- 1991: Saw this quite a bit of times in the 1990s. I don't think I've seen it on DVD though. Loved the film. Snatch- 2000: One of the first DVDs I bought (well in the first 100). I'm a Guy Ritchie fan so naturally I l...

Re: My favorite movies

I have to read your reasons of So Close :).

Good to see Three O'clock High- 1987 on there. It is one of my favorites as well. Love the camerawork in it, but I have always enjoyed the story as well. It is one of the films I grew up with, so I have seen it quite a bit of times.

The Killer Snakes (Hong Kong, 1974) [DVD] – 4/5 ... The film also features some nice Hong Kong city / street footage - it was always a pleasure when 70s Hong Kong filmmakers took the cameras to the real streets. ... Song of Sparrows is OOP. Amour is the only AA nominated film of that year I had not seen. Three Smart Girls is also a AA nominated film. Easy Living is the only one I've seen of the bunch. I like Jean Arthur. She has one of the unique voices of her time. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91Aq4%...

Re: My favorite movies

I'm going to slowly go through this and make notes of what I want to see and how much I have seen. I wanted to post now so you know I am looking at this. OK Hoop Dreams , that is a pick I wasn't expecting. It is also in my top 100 films. I played basketball for many years and took to that film. Roge...

Re: What books have you read?

Here is more what I have read so far this month: A Little Princess (1905) by Frances Hodgson Burnett What amazes me when I go through these “children’s books” how little they feel like they are directed to children and instead about children. I wonder how many young-ones grow up reading these. The d...

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out

From an action standpoint (not necessarily all aspects of the film but you can include those if you like) do you consider the best Chuck Norris films? I'm a bit weak on his filmography. That's a tough one... I guess it depends on what kind of action you're looking for? Chuck toned down the martial ...

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out

A Force of One (1978-USA) **½ Tame martial arts thriller (with Chuck Norris) plays like a slightly above average TV movie or series pilot. Watchable, but uninspired, especially the action. From an action standpoint (not necessarily all aspects of the film but you can include those if you like) do y...

I've seen 12 Year a Slave in the theater (I bought the book as well; yes the link is my review). It is the only one of the bunch I've seen. I like Jean Arthur and I like George Steven's as a director ( Giant , Shane , A Place in the Sun , Gunga Din , really a great director) so The More The Merrier ...

Thunderbolt (1995: Gordon Chan: Hong Kong)

Jackie Chan was not particularly happy with the results here and it is completely understandable. It was created as Jackie’s ode to racing analogous to Steve McQueen in Le Mans (1971). Chan had a contract as spokesman with Mitsubishi (which allowed him nice little goodies like have access to prototy...

Wong Jing in certainly an auteur in the way Roger Corman is and has a “throw in everything including the kitchen sink” type of attitude with many of his films. Never thought I'd see the words 'Wong', 'Jing', and 'auteur' in the same sentence. :D Because Wong Jing is so prolific he can be quite slop...
