Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Alita: Battle Angel (USA, 2019) [DCP] - 4/5 A real pleasant surprise, this one! A Hollywood manga/anime adptation one doesn't have to make a ton of excuses for because it mostly gets it right. I don't quite get why the main character had to be fully mo-capped and while really violent for a PG-13 it...

Re: The Eye's Dream (Dream of Eyeball) (Hisayasu Sato, 2016)

Can we make this a general Hisayasu Sato news/reviews thread? There's hardly enough interest for each bit of info to get its own thread, so I figure a catch-all is warranted. The "big" news today? A new film by Hisaysu Sato has popped up on a VOD service for the first time in 8 goddamn years! Consid...

Re: Japanese Splatter and Zombies: Part Deux

Full Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOWBJcri-W8 According to Sasa Handa, who has a role in the film(s), the 4DX is basically the seats vibrating every time she revvs her chainsaw and water sprinklers coming on every time there's a blood spray effect. I guess there are people who think that...

Re: The Burning Buddha Man (2013)

I can't, unfortunately. There is no mention of a region code on the BD's back cover, I'm not aware of any software being able to identify BD region codes and I lack the hardware to check the disc's compatibility with players set for other regions.

No less than two sequels to director Hiroki Yamaguchi's Bloody Chainsaw Girl (血まみれスケバンチェーンソー) ( 2016) are hitting Japanese 4DX theaters on February 22nd. http://i67.tinypic.com/2uthsmh.jpg Teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYtLqUJHPKo I'm sure they'll be just as cerebrally stimulating as the f...

You left out the most important part: How were the subtiles for the German parts handled? English or Japanese only?

Liverleaf (ミスミソウ) (Japan, 2018) [BD] - 3.5/5 Another over-the-top manga adaptation from Eisuke Naito after Litchi Hikari Club (2016). Those looking for a serious and realistic drama about bullying will be sorely disappointed as a 40 minute first third spent on character introductions and the heroin...

You Don't Even Like Me (好きでもないくせに) (Japan, 2016) [BD] - 2.5/5 Another Kota Yoshida film and there'll be a couple more before I'm done catching up. This one is a serious drama about Kotoko (gravure model turned actress Riko), a girl who can only have sex with guys she doesn't actually like. This mos...

Re: Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden (Kota Yoshida) (2014)

Kota Yoshida has had another film hit theaters and now DVD/BD: Suki demo nai kuseni (好きでもないくせに, 2016). I think the title translates to something like "Even though I don't like it...". Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOkJFMu7t3A Website: http://www.sukidemo.net/ Rated R-18 so while it looks...

Wait, which version is missing most of the sex scenes? The 60 minute version? Or the 71 min R15 version?
The 60 minute amazon version.

@Guro Taku, I remember you saw and reviewed this as well. Did you manage to confirm any of the version running times first hand? My Japanese DVD has a runtime of 71 minutes and is identified as the R15 cut on the back cover. I compared it with the 60 minute thing on amazon and they basically cut ou...

A Woman's Holes (女の穴) (Japan, 2014) [BD] - 3/5 Definitely a lot better than director Kota Yoshida's The Torture Club ちょっとかわいいアイアンメイデン (2014) and with a lot less sex and nudity. The R18 rating it brandishes is due to brief full-frontal nudity from gravure idol Yumi Ishikawa. The film is split pretty...

Guro Taku watched Onna no ana ? How was it? Looks like there's both R15 and R18 versions in distribution. Holy SHIT! I bought this 5 years ago? Anyway, I finally sat down and watched it and it's a pretty good film. Definitely a lot better than Iron Maiden and with a lot less sex and nudity. The R18...

Best selling how? Some of these titles, like 色ざんげ for example, are only available on VHS or as VOD. Others have recent BD releases. A depressing list no matter how you look at it or how it was compiled.

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Very interesting info! I suspect that most of the time the English subtitles for Spanish/French/Russian etc. parts of Hollywood films are "hardcoded" into the DCP or 35mm print and the Japanese distributors have no way of removing them, so they just add their own Japanese subtitles.

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

I had no idea it's half in German. I hope the Japanese theatrical version comes with English subs for those parts (they sometimes do, sometimes don't) as reading Japanese subtitles isn't my favorite pastime. There's a handful of lines in French as well, actually. That's interesting about foreign la...

Suspiria (Italy-USA, 2018) [amazon] - 3.5/5 Luca Guadagnino's film joins the ranks of the very few remakes who justify their existence by not solely retreading an original but taking a story concept and doing their own thing with it. Excellently directed and edited with absolute laser precision. Th...

This is an adaptation from Miura's own stage play The credits claim it was based on a novel by one Ira Ishida with no mention of a stage play. Looks like Miura adapted it for the stage first in 2016 and then proceeded with a movie version. Also of possible interest: there are a total of 3 "Call Boy...
