I liked this one from Naked Killer (the first one):

"I'll burst your tits!"

:D

I dont think I'd buy NK again though I've never seen Raped By An Angel.

That's surprising, considering the copious amounts of (often expensive) soft porn that you buy.

I guess we're just different you and me. But I think those films are worth the money although the sex parts are boring.

But maybe I really should take a break and watch something else for a change. I could try some childrens shows like Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. My friends little sister says they're really good.

For a couple of children's action shows they have more cinematic merit than exploitation films, that's for sure. Too afraid to poopoo on the likes of Oshii films, Kon films, Paranoia Agent, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei?

I've seen some of Oshii's films as well as a couple of Satoshi Kon films.

How many 60's or 70's Shunya Ito or Norifumi Suzuki films have you seen?

edit: continuing discussion here since my comments refer mainly to japanese (s)exploitation

Recognize the Cat III trailer slogan:

"The movie crew risked their necks to go deep into the neighborhood of an African epidemic area for field shooting. Cheers to them!"

hey,

yea. I saw that nonsense in the Ebola dvd recently. These captions have not been "improved" since way back when. Especially Shaw Brother's trailer were hilariou in that regard. Saw the FOUR RIDERS trailer yesterday and it had these fun bits:

"Character not for the sake of it
No action for the sake of action
Chang Cheh - director with a purpose"

At any rate, Cat III exploitation might not be back but Herman Yau recently provided the rating with some black magic nastiness in the form of GONG TAU AN ORIENTAL BLACK MAGIC. WARNING! REVIEW CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGERY!
Because that's where the movie magic sometimes lies. It's about the final push a filmmaker manages to do to hopefully rightly plant vivid images in viewer's minds. Gong Tau An Oriental Black Magic ain't a return to a golden era of shameless exploitation but its rare appearance as a genre movie containing black magic will be commended by fans looking for a kick to the balls. A kick Hong Kong cinemas dependent workhorse Yau gladly provides.

trying to get this thread going. have been looking figuring out what 'new wave' period shaw and fortune star exploitation, crime, triad, generally nasty - dark -gritty - nihilistic films are possibly had quite cheaply. been noticing that one or two more obvious choices available on dvd in hk are now effectively oop, some are just about findable, and others aren't really talked about as it seems to be a subject shaw fans don't talk about as frequently as kung fu flicks and genre fans tend to go for these cat III classics like 'run & kill' or 'dr lamb' before they graduate to 'lost souls' and the like. some films have also appeared since this thread was really started (like 'flirting' > http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_deta ... uctID=8361 which is well-reviewed > http://www.sogoodreviews.com/reviews/flirting.html) which should be a sign there's some good stuff to be dug out? has anyone suggestions for films or links to good resources for researching what's along-these-lines in shaw or fortune star releases? i'd like to avoid figuring out which are the romantic drama - comedy films from this era, and head for the things which fit the bill for exploitation from a great period of HK film that doesn't really seem to make itself easy to traverse...

Happy new year everybody :P

I got the "extended cut" of Ebola Syndrome austrian (bootleg?) DVD wich contains some longer scenes. (present as bonus on the Discotek DVD, which i don't own).
The additional bits are violence/gore. It looks more like censorship than intentional cut, so i wonder why discotek didn't include them in the movie. Picture brightness/contrast doesn't match well and there is missing frames but maybe they could have done a better job.
Also it is not clear to me if the Discotek version is the original theatrical cut or if it is alreay less censored..

Any cat.III specialist around ?

Not a bootleg. An identical version was also released in Germany by a different label.

When asked about that at the time of the release, Discotek stated that the license holder(s) explicitly forbade them to create a longer cut with the supplied deleted footage.

The version released by Discotek is identical to what was released on DVD in Hong Kong by Universe. Herman Yau and Anthony Wong provide a very entertaining audio commentary on the US DVD and never mention any differences either.
