Slightly off topic, but...

New awesome music video for The 50 Kaitenz (ザ50回転ズ), directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura. Stars: Maki Mizui, Cay Izumi, Yumiko Hara and Kanji Tsuda

+ on topic: loads of Sushi Typhoon matsuri coverage. All the filmmakers present... ninja Iguchi, fundoshi Nishimura, Maaku... lots of program, and even the bathrooms were covered in blood and bodyparts. Obviously the best party of the year.

Does Sushi Typhoon have any films in production right now? Zaborgar seems to be the latest one.

Welcome! Good to have more Northern Europe here!

Sushi doesn't have any new films in production at the moment (at least nothing has been announced), although I do assume they will be back later this year. Probably just taking time off to turn their films into money... they kinda over-produced in 2010 and 2011, when they had more films than film festivals could play...

Hope they'll be back soon, I think they took a really interesting turn with Sion Sono's Cold Fish, would love if they made more films like that and not just did the "crazy japanese" thing. And didn't Yoshinori Chiba produce Sono's Guilty of Romance as well, but not under the Sushi Typhoon banner?

I didn't even know Chiba was involved with Guilty, but yes, IMDb confirms. I haven't seen the film as I skipped it at a fest because it was the international version, and returned my UK BD for the same reason...

Takashi Miike was supposed to direct a Sushi film. That might be interesting...

That would be cool.

Hopefully they would give some newcomers a chance too. As Tom Mes suggested in the Midnight Eye best-of 2011 list, Nikkatsu and Sushi Typhoon could be the new "v-cinema". Or fill the void left by v-cinema.

In my Yakuza Weapon review I actually wrote the film feels like V Cinema made for theatrical release...

... I just wish they'd drop the CGI... the situation has been getting worse film by film... and Iguchi's new (non-sushi) films seem to be full of CGI gore, too...

I'm not really that bothered by the cgi, the only one were it did become a distraction was in Deadball, it completely lost the charm of Battlefield Baseball. Not just because of the cg, but it was a big part of it.

I went into Deadball with low expectations (I had not seen Battlefied yet by then)... but the first 45 minutes blew me away. Excellent prison stuff with a strange John Carpenter wibe and some hilarious humor. But the next 45 minutes merely bored me with endless CGI, underwhelming ball game, and less outrageous jokes...

Towards the end there was such confusing cut that I though they missed a film reel
(or maybe it was just me, as the film was screening in the 3 am slot...)

I later saw Battlefield, and found that one much better. Taku's singing scene is pure brilliance!

Speaking of Taku (and Sono), I have high expectations for Kenkichi
