That's how it's marketed at least. Not sure if it's related to her batte with cancer or previous comments she made about wanting to focus more on her career as a singer.

TUNGUSKA BUTTERFLY casts her as Saki, a former elite soldier and professional thief who is now just staying afloat with minor jobs. When she spots Mari, a young girl stealing from a store, a connection is formed. Turns out the young girl's mother is shacking up with a yakuza who of course is a complete psycho. When Mari's life is in danger, she needs Saki's help to survive. Directed by Akira Nobi, a relative unknown who previously contributed to THE ABCs OF TETSUDON.

Looking forward to seeing the trailer before I say more.

But I'm hopeful this will be more serious Asami. I don't like her in "Asami mode" but I loved her in Gun Woman where she played a mute.

It'll have its world premiere this month at a film festival in Hamburg, Germany of all places. I expect a trailer and some reviews will arrive soon.

Here's a review:

Apparently Asami is really good in it but the film itself is mediocre at best. The reviewer is also clearly unaware that this was her final acting role.
