I only liked sammo, but everything else was pretty crap: the supporting cast, the stories, the whole look of the show ...
Some action sequences were very good though, and Kelly Hu is obviously a nice woman to look at, but that's about it.
In a way it's a bit the same as with Monk: good lead character, some nice stories, but pretty much everything else is pretty mediocre. Wouldnt surprise me, if it was made by the same TV makers btw, as the look of both shows is a bit simular (cinematography, colors, clothes, etc)

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

That's all that matters in the end really with something like this. A good number of the classic HK action movies we like have really shitty plots, settings, etc - all just brain-dead entertainment. Eg Police Story 1,2,etc - I remember Brad calling the series "glorified stunt documentaries".Yi-Long wrote:Some action sequences were very good though, and Kelly Hu is obviously a nice woman to look at, but that's about it.
You refering to the Tony Shaloub starring show where he plays an Obsessive Compulsive detective? That's great fun.In a way it's a bit the same as with Monk:

I know, but I would have liked it even better if Sammo would have been in a better quality TV show. Martial Law is really a bit ruined because of the shitty costars and the shitty cheap TV look. Plus it's also a bit 'tame', like that Chuck Norris Texas Ranger TV show...EvaUnit02 wrote:That's all that matters in the end really with something like this. It's PG action. Family fun.

I agree, it's a nice show to watch and Shaloub is great, but again it's a bit ruined by the rest of the cast, the tame scripts and the simple cinematography.

I thought it was good for what it was. Formula action TV. Same goes for Walker. I had no particular problem with the supporting cast. The cheap look maybe down to standard academy ratio shooting and film stock.Yi-Long wrote:I know, but I would have liked it even better if Sammo would have been in a better quality TV show. Well, it's a network show. They can't have sex or swearing or people having their knees capped, lol. The fights were PG-13-level tough, which is surely all you can expect from CBS.Plus it's also a bit 'tame', like that Chuck Norris Texas Ranger TV show... It's PG action. Family fun.
Monk definately grew on me with the repeats I've seen. Shalhoub is excellent and it's amusing to see Ted "Buffalo Bill" as a nice guy cop.I agree, it's a nice show to watch and Shaloub is great, but again it's a bit ruined by the rest of the cast, the tame scripts and the simple cinematography.

I liked the first season, before they added Arsenio Hall and turned it into Rush Hour: The TV Series?
Yeah, the plots weren't much, and neither was the acting. But it sure was fun to watch Sammo in action once a week. I'd definitely pick it up on DVD if it were released!

My favorite Hong Kong screen villain? www.yuenwah.com

Arsenio Hall was in the first season, came in midway, but the forumla was more about team work than the second series, when, as you correctly, assert the show became Rush Hour on TV. I still enjoyed it though, more than Rush Hour, in fact. Arsenio is a helluva a lot less irritating that Crispy Tucker.
