Haha yes its mine, and she actually was depressed when I took that shot! family was on holiday and she wasn't eating or sleeping well, so I would say she did indeed have doggy depression

That and she was not amused at all by Sonny

Blow Out ***

Smart, stylish conspiracy thriller from Brian DePalma.

John Travolta is on fine form.

Under-appreciated sequel remains the most intelligent, most dramatic, and best acted entry in the series. The extended cut is certainly valid on its own terms, but on balance I still prefer the theatrical cut.
Considering Alien is basically a cerebral B-Movie with some very intelligent ideas with regards to the alien lifecycle from Dan O'Bannon, the alien design from Giger, and the "working class tension" dialogue/dynamics from Hill/Giler, I'd say that stating Alien 3 is the most intelligent of the Alien series is quite some claim! :o

I stand by my remark. Watch Alien 3 again. There's a lot going on. Alien maybe a 'smart B-movie' but its ideas are nowhere near as developed or interesting. What Alien has is the benefit of being 'the original'. It introduces... but Alien 3 has the harder task and succeeds.

Machette ★★★★ out of ★★★★★
Fun-trashy-silly-enjoyable, and very violent.. the story is all over the place though, and I was going to give it a half mark less, but on reflection I did really enjoy the viewing experience. Not as good as Planet Terror though, and why the hell did they cut out Rose McGowan's scenes?

FTR. I thought 'I, Robot' was just OK, but Will Smith was mis-cast. Film could've been a lot better.

I enjoyed I Robot, good entertaining movie.
Robin Hood was OK but silly at times - eg somehow Robin persuaded the King to sign the Magna Carta - what!
The stylish use of art/paintings in the credits was clever.

A rather pointless suggestion to someone who reviewed the Alien Anthology release and sat through Alien 3 at least three times late last year, trust me when I say I know Alien 3 inside and out! I've actually possibly seen Alien 3 more times than any other Alien film over the years, as it's one of those titles I've ended up revisiting for a number of reasons - It's not my favourite in the series, but I do enjoy it, and have certainly seen it more times than Aliens!

I think people tend to overlook just how intelligently crafted Alien is right across the board, mostly because it is a "B Movie" and it's also so lean and naturalistic - and most of all it was original in many ways and defined so many genre staples. Alien 3 is more obviously "intelligent" imo, it's operatic and has lofty themes that aren't satisfyingly explored because of the studio and also Fincher's naivety at time. I like to think of Alien 3 more like a richly flavoured wine that was bottled wrong and hence never reached its potential, just came out a little blander than it should have.

Blowup: 3.5/5

Shame it became a snooze-fest for the last 45 minutes.

Lol... I forgot you did that series of reviews. :D

Ridley Scott makes it look like an 'A' movie. Tech credits are superb. I'm not saying that Alien doesn't deserve praise, it's just that I think Alien 3 is a better movie and that too many critics can't see past 'the original'.

Yes, it had the luxury of getting there first. Then Cameron followed with a bombastic blockbuster. Fincher had a very tough task, but I think on the whole he succeeded. There are flaws, but IMO it's the strongest and smartest of the series. I don't expect everyone to agree.

Under difference circumstances we could have been talking about a truly classic movie instead of just a really good one.

Fast Five - 3.5/5
Surprisingly good 5th entry. Would have benefitted from more driving and less crashing/exploding/breaking places mayhem, but still very solid. Got some amazingly manly scenes. You don't get that stuff often these days. And now I know it, God is black!

The best film I've seen in the series. The 1st one gave me a headache, the 3rd one was total wasted potential (why shoot in Tokyo when your screenplay could just as well take place in any foreign country?), the 4th one I missed. The 2nd one was my favorite before, delightingly dumb and fun.

Keep missing the 4th one, its the worst :D CGI cars and CGI locations for the most part! make CGI stunts seem very CGI.

Mind you i just bought it on Blu Ray
