Maniac Cop sequels come to mind as something I need to watch (well, the original too). I remember you had some positive words of them. Unfortunately these days I don't really much have time to watch non-Japanese films. I always enjoy reading your reviews, though.

And yeah, I agree seeing movies without knowing much/anything about them can be very rewarding.

My movie viewing has been quite Japan-heavy recently, as you can see...

Holy crap Hung :D. I just keep my viewings in a Word document (I have for several years). I also then enter in icheckmovies.com where I work on several lists. I keep a couple of notations like Countries and then tally up later. Notes: RW = rewatch (but I do not always keep this one up), Add Year means I add it to a year end list. This does not include short films.

My viewing since the beginning of June:

While I no longer use it (I am going to rewrite it someday): I wrote an n-tier database entry system for myself using JSP (JavaScript/DOM/DHTML for the front end)/JEE (Java) with Oracle as a database (RDBMS; I created the tables, indexes etc...). I did it so I could query my collection for certain factors like how many 1969 movies I owned.

Take that for nerdy.

I just use IMDb for that kind of stuff. They have excellent filters to sort the films you have seen (e.g. 1969 films spoken in Japanese and filmed in B/W in 2.35:1 aspect ratio).

I need the Excel list in addition to that because IMDb is missing so many movies (during the last two months I've watched 5 movies which are not listed in IMDb, 4 of them Sonny Chiba films) and it's also convenient if you want to check when exactly you saw something. But if someone asks me what are my favourite 1975 Japanese films IMDb can generate me a list in a few seconds, I just need to check from Excel if there are any missing from IMDb

Yeah, but I needed to know what DVD/BDs I had of those films per year and if I was currently lending it someone (and how long they were borrowing it) :D. You see the fun aspect is creating the system and then manipulating it to do things that that existing systems do not do (like you say if the film does not exist in IMDB or if they use an uncommon name for the director.)

I use IMDB as well and I do use filmaf.com for some of my collection stats.

Crikey! I've not been doing any documentation at all on my film viewing until this year because I thought it would be neat to try and watch 600movies in a year. The problem is that I didn't come up with this idea until well into the year, so I'm not sure if the Excel list I put together actually covers all the films I've seen! :icon_suspect: All I've recorded though is the title and the year of the film, couldn't be arsed to record any other info. In retrospect I think I should have listed them alphabetically by month like you fellas have!

I've done in the 500s before, but I've never hit 600 (I don't think I can though; talk about a big goal.) Occasionally I forget to document a film. I like to put them in order of what I watched. Have you tried using a site like icheckmovies (it really is more for if you are into working on lists)? I've been keeping a yearly Word list for several years now. If I need to go back :).

Enough nerd shit... :D

Survival Quest (1989-USA) **
Lance Henriksen stars as a wilderness guide in this minor outdoors thriller that struggles manfully with credibility issues.

Charming leads (Ted Danson and, especially, Isabella Rossellini) steer this patchy romantic drama.

I remember you recommending icheckmovies & another site before and liked the idea, but I'd not thought of compiling a list for the year by then so couldn't be bothered to sign up; I might do so at the beginning of next year though! So far this year I've recorded 538 films watched (probably more than that actually watched) so I think I could top 600 easy if I really went for it, but I've just done my usual Halloween marathon & I think I need to chill out with a bit of gaming throughout November to charge me up for the usual Christmas film marathon :D.

That is one audacious goal, but heck you are almost there (hope you do not get burnt out.) Actually icheckmovies is good for going against preexisting movie lists like IMDB top 250 etc..., give the site a look through to see if it is something you might be interested in. With yearly lists I used to use the now gone site listsofbests, alas it is gone.

Yeah I definitely tend to increase Christmas films starting around Thanksgiving. Most I've seen before :).

Not a dumb question, it takes a little while to get used to their User Interface.

To the right of your movie title list there is a list of icons. On the far right of these icons is one that looks like a pencil. If you mouse over it, it will say "Edit the top list." Click on this icon and it will open up the Edit movies of top list ... screen.

Here is my profile on the site: https://www.icheckmovies.com/profiles/m ... inchpunch/ (I use this name so much that I think when you see it you know it is me on other sites.)

Raw Force 2.5/5 Raw Force is a bat shit crazy 80's B Movie that features awful acting, kung fu cannibals, random nudity and Cameron Mitchell! What's not to like? Incredibly this vhs staple that's never before seen a dvd release has received a stellar Blu-Ray release from Vinegar Syndrome.Great Score as well.

The Purge 2/5 An unexpected hit at the box ofice, The Purge is a reasonably entertaining 85 minutes let down by having pretty much unlikeable characters,so much so i didn't care who bought it at the climax, good or bad.I hear the sequel's better, will watch soon.

Last Embrace 2.5/5 Jonathan's Demme 1979 Hitchcock Pastiche feels like it should've been made by De Palma. Roy Scheider was one of my favourite actors, criminally underrated and adds something to anything he's in.Janet Margolin provides good support and the cast also includes Christopher Walken & Charles Napier.A Decent blu ray release from Kino Lorber.

Never heard of this... but it sounds like something I should see.

EDIT:

Last Embrace (1979-USA) *½
Risible sub-Hitchcock thriller; turns out there's a good reason I hadn't heard of this!

No, but that's a good idea and I hope they implement it. They just have the favorite/dislike attributes. I do my rating on IMDB (filmaf allows ratings as well if you keep track of what you own.)

The Book of Love (1990-USA) **
Bog standard 50s teen nostalgia piece with contemporary language and vulgarity. It took New Line head honcho 17 years to direct another film.

Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? (1990-USA) **½
Quirky seriocomic drama about a (largely) obnoxious Texan family fighting over their dying father's inheritance. Unexceptional, but has it's moments.

The Fourth War (1989-USA-Canada) **
Far-fetched but watchable cold war thriller in which respective officers from US and Russian forces play out a private war on the Czech border.

Bloodmatch (1991-USA) *½
Unusual martial arts B-pic from Albert Pyun is done in by typical amateurishness.

He directed The Last Mimzy a few years back, which wasn't exactly great tbh!

Blue Desert (1990-USA) **½
Decent B-movie thriller with Courtney Cox as a rape victim who moves out west for a quiet life only to be stalked by a killer rapist... but is it the ex-con with anger management issues or the likeable sheriff? And just why does Philip Baker Hall appear so shifty? Nothing special, but keeps the viewer guessing...

Caged Fear (1991-USA) **
A young woman takes the rap for her armed robber-boyfriend; he decides to get her out of jail. As WIP trash goes this one is more fun (and less offensive) than most. Filmed as Hotel Oklahoma; one of many AKAs.
