Terrible excuse for a comedy.
But The Shining was only half a star better than it :D
Polar opposite movies judged on vastly different criteria.

You can't compare a ** rating for The Shining with a *½ for Bean.

The Shining is a much better film than Bean, but contextually worth only a ½ more.

You don't seem familiar with how reviews work.

Obviously I meant 'in your opinion' it was only a half point better

I quite enjoyed Bean (and the sequel come to that) some familiar sketches, and though it doesnt always work as a full film it was pleasant enough. It was better when Rowan didnt talk and try to give Bean a voice.
I think I probably preferred the sequel.

No. You still don't seem to get it.

The only time I can recall smirking (not laughing) was when Bean drew an absurd biro face over Whistler's Mother. The rest was a laughter-free zone for me.

The face he drew was exactly what I was thinking of when I saw you and Grim talking about the film haha.

Personally, I've never been a big fan of Bean. I can take it in small bites, like the shorts that were made for TV, which can be entertaining, but I much prefer Blackadder and some of Rowan's other roles (Bernie and the Genie), over the role of the complete nitwit Bean. Probably cause I can't relate to the character in anyway, and I find the humor to be a bit 'simple' and predictable.

The Olympic Bean sketch was funnier than the entire 1997 movie.

The Bean movies are piss poor compared to the tv series. It all went to pot when the yanks got involved.

I agree with Mark the Olympic sketch was very funny :D The TV shorts are better than the films and have some great moments though - me and my dad were just talking about that the other day :D
I love Rowan's work in Blackadder - one of the best comedies ever :D But they probably chose Bean for the Olympics because its been shown all over the world I think.

21 Jump Street (2012-USA) *½

Moronic parody of the 80s TV series amuses for about five minutes before resorting to the usual dick jokes and drug humour.

What's happened to the reviews? You could at least type a sentence, ratings alone tell you very little (especially when they mean totally different things to everyone here).

Fair enough.

BLACK OAK CONSPIRACY (1977) 3/5
Decent little fast-paced revenge film from the director of the Count Yorga movies. The protagonist is a hothead and gets into a lot of unnecessary fights for our enjoyment, as he roots out a crooked land scheme. I spent the whole film wanting to suggest to him to make a more subdued approach.

The Challenge (1982-USA) **

Very uneven American-produced, Japanese-set martial arts movie starring Toshiro Mifune and (an unappealing) Scott Glenn. The violent climax (choreographed by Steven Seagal!) is the best part.

Elsewhere (2007-USA) ***

Absorbing mystery-chiller in which a girl-next-door type (Anna Kendrick) searches for her slutty best friend who's gone missing. Acting and writing are above average for genre. I doubt many have seen this... but it's worth checking out.

The Last Shot (2004-USA) **½

I was half way thru this amusing Hollywood satire before I realised I'd seen it before. Image
