UK Lords issue landmark abuse ruling

Post by bradavon »

Victims of sexual abuse may be able to sue their attackers after many years, following a ruling by the Law Lords.

What I cannot believe is a convicted attempted rapist is allowed to even enter the lottery

He did his time, so why shouldnt he be allowed in the lottery?

This woman can now sue this guy for damages. If she's entitled to them and gets them, is a whole different discussion.

Shouldnt this be in debate?

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Because he bought the ticket whilst on day release (which is a piece of bullshit). So technically he was on government time when he won. For that reason the victim should be allowed to sue for a percentage (if not all). His crime was particularly nasty and I hope she gets the lot.

OMG. The women who was almost raped by this guy was at one point ordered to pay him £100,000 in legal costs after she lost her initial case against him:

I'd completely agree but he was still in jail (or more to the point his sentence wasn't finished) when he was allowed to enter the lottery. That is so wrong. It's standard practise to not let criminals still inside enter competitions so I don't see why the lottery is any different, especially when we're talking about such large sums of money.

If you like. I accidentally left the shadow topic in Anything Goes, oh well.
