To me, "Brotherhood of the Wolf" has always been a matter of style over substance.

Well, I noticed that some had included both Asian and non-Asian films in their lists, but that would be too difficult... so I decided to go for a top ten non-Asian job... but that was also too difficult to narrow down so I ended up just typing a short list... At least it gives a rough idea of what I like...

As for come back... thanks for the welcome, btw... I felt that enough time had passed for things to get settled. I had popped by before as a lurker but all everyone was talking about was changes and moves and so I lost interest to be frank. But as this has become a permanent home I thought come back. It seems most of the original gang are here, just a few more discenters, but even so there's a lack of life in the forum. I really don't know why? I hope Bullets doesn't die on its arse... but the prognosis isn't great. I'll do what I can by posting regularly, but it's up to everyone else to chip in. I see 99 members joined before I, so where are they? Get posting, guys!!!

You mean EVERY title bar Hard Target?? :D

But then Romero you are a stranger to good movies...

I would go out on a limb and call "Die Hard" the best American action movie ever made.

Yes, it's that "Gladiator". Brian Dennehy is a hard-bastard!!

What's this about a Frighteners DC DVD? Do tell.

Groundhog Day - its' a classic, just pefect :D
LOTR (as brassmonkey says, as a Trilogy but I havent seen ROTK EE yet).
The Good The Bad and The Ugly

Markgway theres some good film on your list, but the best film I have ever seen? far far from it for me :D

I just recetly watched
Leathal Weapon 1 - 4 over 4 nioghts and it was a great series all the films have something going for them, very enjoyable series.

I will add Lord of the Rngs Trilogy to my list when I make one as al 3 make a perfect film :)

What's this about a Frighteners DC DVD? Do tell.
Well its coming out in a new eidtion in Germany soon, we will get specs soon I hope its the Old Laserdisk cut and loads of extras too, about time too! I got the dvd but its not a real one if you know what I mean, now I can dump it if this new version is the real film!

Unlicenced boxing. It just really clicked with me. It's out on R2 so give it a try.

I think 1 has the best drama, 2 the best action, 3 the best comedy. But overall, 2 has the best balance/mix of the three. It has everything wrapped into an entertaining package. Now if I can only get an UNCUT 16:9 DVD!!!

Whats wrong with the R4 release of LW2? I have it (along with the R4's of 1 and 3), that is uncut (AFAIK) and 16/9. :)

I'd like to see proper SE's of these films though :)

Nah, don't want the faux Director's Cut. If Richard Donner had anything to do with that DVD, my penis is a metre long! All Warners did was add three or four crap scenes. Total unecessary cash-in. I'm looking for an uncut/16:9 DVD of the theatrical version. The R1, which i have, is uncut alright, but 4:3/2.35 and looks pretty poor. All the Euro discs should be intact, but are now OOP. It's my fault, perhaps, for not specifying which edit I meant.

Ah.

Its' OK Mark, didnt realise you meant that. I'm happy with the DVDs I have but TBH the extra foootage in the first one is the only time it really adds anything and improves the film (IMO). :)

True. I have the DC of Pt.1 because the extra scenes add depth to the film. I do believe that article is genuine. But to me Pts 2/3 are nothing more than a cyncial marketing exercise.

20: Twins Effect 2
Image

Hated (unjustly) by pretty much all critics just because the Twins are in it, Twins Effect 2 is more than a nice surprise.
It's a colourful Indiana Jones-like adventure, with lots of incredible wire-fu fights (let's not forget that TE2 was directed by Corey Yuen).

What Corey did with Twins Effect 2 is the same thing that Tsui Hark did with Swordsman:
-Take a few popstars and put them in the film (Sam Hui / Jackie Cheung = The Twins).
-Put in a few experienced actors to give the film some legitimacy (Yuen Wah / Cheung Man = Tony Leung Kar-Fai / Daniel Wu).
-Throw in some fights and Voilà !

Twins Effect 2 might not be the best film ever shot, but it's certainly enjoyable enough (unless you're allergic to the Twins).

19: Magic Crane
Image

Magic Crane is a typical 1993 wire-fu flick like Iron Monkey, Flying Dagger, Butterfly and Sword or Wing Chun, but it's got some fantasy elements that make it better than the rest of the pack.

It just might be the craziest wire-fu movie ever made by the Workshop.
It's got Anita Mui fighting a giant turtle.
It's got Tony Leung flying on a cardboard crane.
It's got a huge finale where the bad guy uses a giant bell as a weapon.

Kind of like a cross between Green Snake (minus the lyrical atmosphere) and a fast-paced action film like Iron Monkey or Tai-Chi Master.

18: Green Snake
Image

Green Snake is one of Tsui Hark's best movies (if not the best).
It's a fantasy swordplay film in which the mood, the music and the visuals are more important than the action or the plot.

Sure the special effects are a bit dodgy, sure Chiu Man-Cheuk's acting is a bit wooden, but Maggie and Joey's performances more than make up for it.

When you take Tsui Hark's cinematography, Yuen Bun's wirework and James Wong's score and put them together, you end up with one of the most thrilling movie experiences you can imagine.

17: DevilMan

16: Tai-Chi Master

15: Swing Girls

14: Romantic Warriors (aka Crazy Killers)

13: Resurrection of the little Matchgirl

12: Ashes of Time

11: King of Comedy

10: The Lovers

9: Legend of Zu

8: Hidden Heroes

7: Battle Royale 2

6: Shadowless Sword

5: Natural City

4: Fly Me to Polaris

3: WuJi

2: OldBoy

1: Casshern

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
