Where do you train? Are you planning to fight any time soon? I'm more into BJJ and submission wrestling and haven't been striking for a couple of months. Been thinking about picking up on that again and maybe trying an amateur (mma) bout some day in the future.IronMonkey wrote:Hayabusa 4oz MMA Gloves: Hayabusa MMA Shin Pads:

Re: What Have You Just Ordered or Received?
Why do I not have those?
Your first Gosha?
He was one of the most important Japanese filmmakers of the 60's and early 70's! Hitokiri (one of the best samurai movies ever made), Samurai Wolf (ultra-cool samurai spaghetti western), Goyokin (a film shot in such gruelling conditions Toshiro Mifune quit), Violent Streets (Argento meets Peckinpah super stylish yakuza movie), Cash Calls Hell (terrific noir), Three Outlaw Samurai (remade by Chang Cheh as the much inferior The Magnificent Trio)...
Strangely, US companies have mainly been releasing his lesser movies...

Hey Hung, slightly off-topic but are there any other Seijun Suzuki films that are as stylish as Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter?

Re: What Have You Just Ordered or Received?
I probably would have enjoyed it more had I not seen Three Outlaw Samurai first. Cheh took the same basic story, copied a lot of scenes (almost shot by shot) but changed the nature of it: while Gosha's characters were outlaws and anti-heroes, Cheh's characters were magnificent heroes. Much of the moral themes and darker shades from the original were dropped.Markgway wrote:I thought The Magnificent Trio was excellent.
Well, at least as far as I can remember. It's been 4 years since I saw The Magnificent Trio, and longer since Three Outlaw Samurai.
I'm not that much of a Suzuki specialist - only seen a handful of his movies. But...gasteropod wrote:Hey Hung, slightly off-topic but are there any other Seijun Suzuki films that are as stylish as Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter?
Gate of Flesh is also superb and quite stylished from what I can remember. Youth of the Beast is supposed to be great - it's on my rental list.HungFist wrote:Detective Bureau 2-3: Go to Hell Bastards! (Japan, 1963) – 4/5
Private detective infiltrates yakuza gang in Seijun Suzuki’s super-hip gangster movie. The jazz-tuned film mixes strong colors, femme fatales, sports cars and men with machine guns to a maximum pop cinema effect. Joe Shishido and the ridiculously beautiful Reiko Sasamori star. Pure coolness on film!

Thanks, there's also that fairly recent one called Pistol Opera or something that I've been meaning to check out too.

Across the street from where I work. I've been training for 20 years but injuries have set me back. I've been out of practice for the last 10 weeks due to an ankle injury but I'm back to it on Saturday, so I thought I'd treat myself to some new kit. I'm a grappler more than anything but I've been working on striking. I was supposed to be having an amateur MMA fight in July but the ankle injury put me out of that. Hoping now to fight in September / October instead. Four guys from our team are fighting in July, can't wait to watch but wish I was part of it!Heka wrote:Where do you train? Bought Everybody's Golf for PS3 in the PSN-store for 10 bucks, this weekend only! Great game, and it comes including all DLC, which makes the deal even sweeter.
Also ordered a bunch of new comics 2 weeks ago which haven't arrived yet, as well as Deadwood Season 1-3 for 15 pounds at Zavvi, and Blazblue CS2 for the PS3.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

The Mummy (Brendan Fraser one) - Universal 100th Anniversary US BD
Was thinking of upgrading my Spider-Man DVD but which US BD has the extras? The re-releases have atrocious artwork.

Thanks Sam, will check it out
Do you know if Spiderman 2/2.1 are fully uncut (with headbutts) in the UK now BTW? I think one BBFC listing said "Full Uncut version" despite it being a PG still

Re: What Have You Just Ordered or Received?
But that's a comparison to the old, cut german dvd and the cut theatrical Hong Kong version. I was under the impression the Austrian (and French) dvd is the restored version, with violence that was never found in the Hong Kong theatrical version. Or am I mistaken?Markgway wrote:http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=1402HungFist wrote:That's a cut version, right?

That link was just to illustrate what was missing from the Hong Kong version.HungFist wrote:But that's a comparison to the old, cut german dvd and the cut theatrical Hong Kong version. The Austrian DVD restores that footage and the censor cuts made by the Germans.
You're not missing anything... no violence was cut from the HK prints.
