Fist in Japan

Post by HungFist »

Decided to separate these posts into a topic of their own. They were originally located in the "off topic" thread. If you see any non-sense references here, then that is the reason. Also, when I made the first posts, I did not specify the location, hence some funny reactions in the beginning

EDIT: Good movie theaters in Tokyo

Laputa Asagaya (JP movie retros only, late show often with genre flicks. All 35 mm or 16 mm. The best cinema in Tokyo!!!!)
Shinbashi bunka (mainstream + pink cinema. See Roman Gekijo section. Roman Porno's frequently. 35 mm)
Cinema Vera (various retros from pinky violence to silent films. Never visited.)
K's Cinema (arthouse)
Kineka Omori (otherwise mainstream, but interesting weekly double features, e.g Tsukamoto flicks)
Eurospace (arthouse, occasionally genre films. Roman Porno retros played here in 2012! JP + foreign)
Jinbocho (retros from Ozu to Godzilla and Seijun Suzuki. Not visited)
Art Center (classics. Not visited)
Uplink Factory (indie, arthouse, docs)
Auditorium Shibuya (indie)
Shin bungeiza (new and old. Never visited. Dubious about format. All nighters often feature BD screenings!!!)
Porepore (indie, arthouse)
Human Trust Shibuya (new films, inc. genre films)

+ various other cinemas (mainly mainstream) that may occasionally feature a genre flick or a classic in their program:

Cinema Rosa
Kamata

I don't think so. It's a bit too sharp edged for that.

It's a very nice walk from my apartment to the department store. I happen to live on top of a hill...
Image

..so it's a nice walk down...

... not so nice when you return with heavy shopping bags. Up, up, up, up... Good excercise at least.
(there's a good bus connection though. Used it today, and it was the most crowded bus I've ever taken. The high school stop really overloaded the bus, and some couldn't even fit in).

Cool pics, man. I thought you lived in Finland or something, but that looks more like Japan.

It's a national holiday (no school) so we went to Shakotan today. It was a bit windy and snowing but not too bad.

Also visited an onsen in that are. Couldn't take pictures there, but it's it's on a mountain next to the sea. There's the outdoor hot water pool, then a few metres of grass, and then a 40 metre drop and sea. The view is similar to the pictures above, aka fucking magnificent. Sitting there, with snow falling from the sky, and looking at the sea... ah, gotta go again some time.

You lucky lucky bastard.

How much does that cost, and is it on your own initiative to learn the language or something, or is it handled by your school in Finland!?
How are the schoolgirls? Are they all swarming around you, or is it nothing like the hentai!?

Also, did you try that 'location' thing on your pc?

I'm self financed so to say... my school doesn't have any exchange agreements with Japanese schools in the field of business and economics and I had to go through some 100 university web pages to find 2 good alternatives... but being a Finn "self finance" includes pretty nice supports from the government (I would get most of that money in Finland as well)... enough to cover the school expenses and rent. The rest is pretty much on me.

School girls are nice, although no seifuku on university level. But there's a high school right next door :D

PC worked fine, thanks.

Cool, way to go, Hung! How long have you been there? Have you made friends already with whom you go out and stuff?
Did you take your DVD player with you or does the family you live with have one?

Since late September.
thelostdragon wrote:Have you made friends already with whom you go out and stuff?
I have some Japanese friends but I spend a lot of time with other exchange students because...
thelostdragon wrote: Did you take your DVD player with you or does the family you live with have one?
... we all live in the same place, which is the school dormitory.

For movies I'm using laptop - HDMI - widescreen monitor combination. Bought a laptop (with BD drive) from Finland before I came here, and then got a 24" Full HD monitor from Sapporo. Can't really fit anything bigger in here, nor could I afford at the moment. But it does the job quite nicely.

When I go back to Finland I need to buy myself a good TV. But laptop will remain as one of my primary movie hardwares. It's so convenient especially for viewing BD's with custom subs. No authoring new movie files, no worries about region codes... just insert the disc, choose subtitle file, connect to TV, and enjoy our new JP BD with subs.

When I said Misakinoyu wouldn't be the last onsen I visist I didn't quite expect the next one would be only 4 days ahead. This time in Hakodate, but I forgot the name of the onsen. And no pics of the onsen again, just the town.

So is it an economic education (a friend of mine is now in Shanghai for his economic internship), or is it more about learning Japanese!? :)
