Re: The off-topic topic
You know how the japanese often put -ne at the end of sentence... sou desune... muzukashii desune... kawaii desune...
...well, I just discovered you can also say hehene when something is funny
Love this language.
Oh, and btw, Ecchi and hentai actually mean the same. Foreign anime fans have given them different meanings but in Japan they are more or less the same. Believe me, I know. I've been called with both words many times enough...

Yeah ecchi comes from how the Japanese pronounce the letter H, and that's the H in Hentai - at least that's the theory anyway! In the west Anime fans have come to use the word ecchi to describe a particular style of sexualised comedy that's much tamer than out-and-out hentai.

How's the Japanese pronunciation of H different to English? There's the 'fu' but the other vowels are just normal 'h' sounds are they not?
Ha, Hi, Fu, He, Ho

Re: The off-topic topic
It's how they pronounce the letter H when they learn the English alphabet, so they're pronouncing it in English. We say h like "aitch", they say "ecchi" or "eichi".

I was on my way to Yuki matsuri when something caught my attention... movie posters, hundreds of them. There was an exhibition at the Sapporo station. Beautiful posters for Japanese and foreign movies. How lucky. I probably spent 30 minutes staring at the Toei yakuza movie posters.

Here's a few pictures from Yuki matsuri (Snow Festival)
Ski jumping... eh, snowboard jumping... in the center of Sapporo
Snow castle
Ice castle and dancers
Our favorite baseball team, Nippon Ham Fighters*, was also present. Plus a few hundred other snow statues from Totoro to Homer Simpson
Plus Mickey and Minney, and an unidentified singer
These are really pretty big...
Is this the most amazing castle you've ever seen? Or is this the most amazing castle you've ever seen?

One more test left... then some rest. I wonder how I'll score. In Finland we get numeral grades (1-5), but the Asian system is different.

Re: The off-topic topic
Yeah, right. Party, party, onsen, party, restaurant, sushi party... haven't even had chance to sleep every night. An Austrian guy returned home so we gave him a ride to Chitose (at 3:45 am) and then went to onsen to kill time... again, great views; right next to a lake, it's cold, and snowy mountains on the other side of the lake... the path to the outdoor pool was very long though and I was freezing and afraid that I had lost my way and would end up butt naked in the backyard... really, if you come to Japan, you gotta visit onsen. And preferrably in Northern Japan in winter, cause it's not as cool if your balls don't freeze and you ain't got snow in your ears.HungFist wrote:One more test left... then some rest.
Everybody very tired after a night in mini van... but banana party (don't ask) at the airport woke us up
I few weeks ago on valentine's day a local Romeo made a heart of candles and place it in front of the girls window... too bad some of the candles went out and it ended up looking more like a skull. And he's too shy to confess for the girl.
The nice thing about JP valentine's day is that girls give guys chocolate and cake...
...although some feminist bitches are trying to equalize it and make guys also buy girls chocolate on valentine... which would be otherwise ok but we've already got White Day (in March) when guys are already supposed to respond to valentine's day gifts with a gift 3 times as valuable!!!
Speaking of chocolate, we went to chocolate factory recently. Kinda boring, although the chocolate (cake) tabehodai indeed revealed that girls can't resist sweets... I couldn't believe how much these adorable girls ate. Probably twice as much as guys, on average.
EDIT: haha, can't believe it. As I'm writing this post, I get a mail and pic in my cellphone. The girls are having a tabehodai again... after onsen, and ice cream.
Unrelated picture
This is kinda fun
Just random pic

Just speaking personally I've got less time to visit, now I have a girlfriend (and the continuing social life). The films I do watch, I've got less inclination to write a review about any more and shockingly I bought my first BD/DVD yesterday since December. I was literally shocked. Moon BD btw.saltysam wrote:After a brief revival a few months back this forum sadly appears to be dying on it's arse again it's been like a morgue in here lately...

That's such a Japanese way of looking at valentines. I wonder how new it is for them, given that valentines is a western thing. Weird they'd at their own slant and at White Day.HungFist wrote:...although some feminist bitches are trying to equalize it and make guys also buy girls chocolate on valentine... which would be otherwise ok but we've already got White Day (in March) when guys are already supposed to respond to valentine's day gifts with a gift 3 times as valuable!!!

I found a cheaper place last week where I managed to get 12 plates for 1450.
But today it was the more expensive restaurant again and I dare not say how much it cost...
And tomorrow combined tabehoudai and nomihoudai in Sapporo. No good, haha.

1450, or about 15 euro, seems like a very reasonable price for so many plates, compared to what it costs here in the west, or more specifically, here in Holland.I found a cheaper place last week where I managed to get 12 plates for 1450.

What the hell is tabehoudai and nomihoudai? I tried google image-search, but just found random pics of people eating, instead of anything specific.

Tabehoudai: all you can eat
Nomihoudai: all you can drink
There's usually a time limit, such as 90 min. But it could also be a much as 6 hours.

Tomorrow's combined tabe-nomihoudai is 3000 yen.
Tabehoudai alone is usually around 1500-2000 yen. Nomihoudai should be about the same. But I'm by no means an expert. Just my experience from a few different places.

Lured there by a creepy Pikachu girl.
They had Super Mario (the orig. game) there, though. Pretty cool.
Just random Susukino photo
Tomorrow I need to get my travel plan together as I'm off to Tokyo and Kyushu for a week doyoubi kara. I don't actually love Tokyo that much anymore... too many gaijin... but Kyushu shows promise. Produced Asaka Yui. Let's hope the level hasn't gone down in 20 years.
