That last picture reminds me of the Star Trek Classic series insignia but with added snow.

Re: Photography topic
Rain + midnight sun turned out a good combination
This weekend it was the midsummer festival in Finland. Where I live the sun goes down around midnight. In Northern Finland it doesn't go down at all. I went there with a Japanese friend a few days ago. Unfortunately we didn't experience the midnight sun, only midnight rain
Oh well, at least we had our photo taken with Santa Claus (yes, during the midsummer festival... ). And in my hometown (where I took those photos) the weather was mostly good.

Re: Photography topic
Well time for more pictures from the most beautiful country on earth... Finland. As you are aware we are barbaric people who uphold barbaric traditions. These include conscription and pistol shooting. So I thought it would be nice to show you dirty civilians how we have fun in Finland.
I normal gun range in Finland.
This is the pistol course we made up. The sport is called practical shooting and I won't bother explaining the rules. I'll just say that it's a lot of fun.
My dad shooting. He's a real pro, I'm just shooting for the fun of it but he competes. You can see the bullet impact behind the target.
Me shooting. My posture isn't that great. I'm not leaning into the gun. All you Brits might notice that I have the the same combat trousers worn by your soliders in Afghanistan. These trousers are illegal and they shouldn't be sold on the civilian market. Luckily our friends at Varusteleka.fi have some secret connections and you can get these in Finland in very limited quantities, but be prepared to pay a lot more than for normal military surplus.
Well even with my crappy posture I'm relatively happy with this. Though I've shot much better before.
The gun is a S&W MP9 pro series which helps out a lot since the gun is much more accurate than the shooter.

Correction: The most beautiful country in the world is ofcourse Japan. Not Finland.
I made a bunch of photo's when I was in HK during my last few vacations, but I need to go back and do it properly with a decent camera instead of a shitty 5 MP camera...

Love the picture, Yi!
@Heka:
Is there a reason for these trousers to be illegal?

And please up more photos tomorrow.
I was playing with the settings and created this one by accident (my right sholder got a bit painful, so I switched the mouse to left hand side... and managed to miss-click... this photo was the result):

Is that Japan too Hung (looks it to me)? Regardless of where it was taken, it's got that sleepy hue to it that always reminds me of 80s Japanese arthouse melodramas! Great shot, as is the B&W shot Yi took, somehow I think that picture wouldn't work quite so well in colour as it would appear more "busy", so I wouldn't say it's pretentious at all.
Finland really does look like a beautiful country, you guys don't know how lucky you are living where you are. Try living in the West Midlands of the UK for a few days, the place is a fucking shithole!! (and that's putting it mildly)

Re: Photography topic
Well the pattern is something Britain designed especially for Afghanistan, this means it's not ment to be warehoused after the Afghanistan operation. All the jackets and trousers that have this pattern will be destroyed when the operation ends (probably a political decision). This makes them real high value collectables. The second reason is that no modern army sells the stuff they use right now for civilians. It takes millions of dollars to research new military hardware including patterns and it's no good if some third world country can copy them.thelostdragon wrote: @Heka:

There is a funny story about this with Finland and Russia. Finland took a new combat "suit" into use in 05. It's made out of state of the art fabrics that resist water and the pattern is the best forest pattern in the world right now, it's customly made for the Finnish forest and the army used a lot of money and manpower to design it. Too bad they used Indian subcontractors to make the suits. The subcontractors made excellent suits but they also illegaly sold the pattern to the Russians. Luckily the Russian copy suits are made out of crappy fabric that's not meant for military use and Russians don't have money to equip their soliders with good equipment.
