Doesn't quite seem the greatest BD, but the German dvd was quite poor from what I recall, so seems like notable improvement at least.

I'd love to get that NOAS BD but the €37,99 + postage price tag is insane.

I'd expect the entire trilogy for that.

it's expensive but this a small time company releasing a mere 2000 units,be amazed if they see a profit even at these prices.the bottom seems to have fell out of the market for these types of releases and has become a niche market.kudos to them for making such an attractive release. to me, £35 well spent...

It's not that limited for a German release of a cult Asian film.

Many R1 Japanese cult cinema dvds sell less than 2000 units. I think Synapse's Horrors of Malformed Men dvd had difficulties selling even 1000 units. That's pretty sad considering it was a region free, pristine and extras packed release of a film that has never been available on home video in any country in any format despite being considered somewhat a holy grail of Japanese cult cinema (the reason why it has not been available is that the film's own production company imposed a practical ban on it soon after it's theatrical release in 1969 and has refused to ever release it in home video format).

as Hung says 2000 is quite a lot for a movie like this.i got 229/2000. Look at Twilight Time, they make 3000 title runs and the only sell outs have been Fright Night & NOTLD remake. there's a taiwanese BD of this and i believe while the transfer is excellent it's frame cut and missing part of chen sing's death which this release has spliced in. i fully agree it's ludicrously priced but for me i buy a hell of a lot less discs than i used to so when something like this comes along, a film i know i'll rewatch often then if i have the funds then i'm having it

I haven't seen the film for years, but at least as a teenager it was my favorite Chang Cheh movie. The whole trilogy is awesome, though.

Looks poor! What the hell did they do, compress it to DVD size or something? I can't decide whether it has been DNR'd that badly or if most of it is down to the shoddy compression just not being able to render any fine detail.

The Brood is one of the few Cronenberg films I've seen.

It didn't inspire me to seek out more.

Hmm probably a case of bad compression and over-zealous clipping. Caps 3&5 are particularly bad: look at the shadow cast on the guy in cap03, it looks like someone's thrown a bucket of tar over his left-hand side.

What BD release of The Brood are your screengrabs from Sam? I'm just looking at the Blu-ray.com review of the Australian release now and the screengrabs are definitely more pleasing than yours, more fine detail, contrast not quite so harsh.
