Pfff. I'll simply not choose a family friendly filter then. Fuck off, Cameron.
I dont like this idea of censorship, where does it end?

In this link he says he's refusing to ban Page 3 and customers can decide to buy The Sun or not (fair enough):

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013/ju ... sun-page-3
Yet he isnt applying the same standards to porn online.
Arsehole.

Obviously I don't know much about what Page 3 is, but with a quick search I can't find any connection to pornography. Isn't that just topless women? You can find topless women when you to beach in lot of European countries. Unless that means I've visited a porno beach (don't tell my mom  )

But you make a good point: what is the British definition of pornography? And does this block consider only hard, or also soft porn? But surely not topless images?

I was thinking before that this may increase movie censorhip, too. Cameron said rape-porn will be made illegal (Japan's gonna lose some if its national income, haha) which doesn't sound that bad, but now that its official, I wonder if there will be more pressure for BBFC to censor sexual violence in mainstream movies.

At first I thought he meant only the really nasty shit like beast porn or anything with children, but I thought it also blocked softer stuff, which is not a good thing. That means if you say you're OK with porn, when your ISP asks you, does your name go on a Government list? Bloody hell.
And where does the censorship stop?
DC is apparently "Speaking as a father" - I think Cameron will dislocate his arse. If he's speaking as a father how dare he speak for all adults, including those that dont and will never have kids. What happened to parental responsibility?
If porn = "images people get sexual feelings from" - who decides what is porn? By that logic we should ban Page 3, bikinis, shorts, skirts, any hot girls TBH, whatever.

Like I say where will this end? Will there be censoring of social media as well? What about if you wrote an article critical of the Government? We dont live in communist China/Russia, or do we?

What happens to 'non porn' sites like Blogspot, Flickr, Photobucket etc which have millions of explicit photos and videos if you look?
Just shows Cameron's proposal is complete toss, and will be unworkable.

Tory government, what dd the voters expect? It's starting to feel like the "video nasties" hysteria all over again, I guess we'll have to call this era the Porno Nasties one! :D
Seriously though, the government didn't let things like truth, honesty & human rights get in their way back in the early 80s, they actively spread false information and lied through their teeth to keep their agenda moving. As more people start to kick up a fuss about this internet censorship we'll start seeing more stories like this.

BTW I couldn't give a fig about online porn being censored as it has no affect on me personally, but I'll be shocked if the censorship starts and ends there. Not with a Tory government behind it and Daily Mail readers supporting them! Today: online streaming porn, tomorrow: 70s exploitation films with explicit rape & those crappy DV modern torture porn horrors. Maybe I'm just being cynical about it all.

The irony is that this has all started in the wake of the BBC Paedophile hysteria & yet no-one seems to have noticed that the internet & streaming media wasn't even around back when Saville, Hall & Co. were raping children. Go figure!

Child porn is a crime.

It appears the Govt. (wrongly) are linking 'regular' porn with the killing of children to justify their ideas, with the usual "Won't somebody think of the children" stuff. For example Claire Perry has commented the guy who killed April Jones started off with "regular" porn.
I agree I dont mind much about online porn, but this isnt even about porn imo, its the censorship itself I'm concerned about.
Today porn, tomorrow softer stuff as you say Shing, maybe completely innocent stuff that contains the word "porn" in a different context.
Improving parental controls (if people are worried about children) would be better than a blanket ban.

Anyway this 'ban' will be useless as its easy to download a piece of software to bypass something, or use any proxy server.

Are you talking about the child porn and rape porn ban? As far as I've understood, nothing else is banned. All you need to do to watch normal porn is tick the box that says "show adult content" with your internet provider. Surely millions of Brits are gonna do that. Sure, sucks for teenagers and may occasionally course trouble for men with ultra-conservative wife, but shouldn't be that big of a deal to anyone else.

Exactly Hung, you've started a thread to discuss/mock the announcement on opt out internet censorship and the new censorship laws on streaming porn (as in previously legal porn) and whilst paedophilia is being used as an excuse by the government to justify their actions, it doesn't really change the fact that the heart of the matter is restrictions on something otherwise legal. I'm genuinely not sure what point Mark was trying to make with his comments earlier, it was just a blatant statement of the obvious. TBH I'm surprised he would have any criticism of the new censorship proposals, he's exactly the sort of right-wing Daily Mail reading demographic that the Government are trying to win support from! :?

Agreed Hung, it seems easy enough, but why is it blocked by default, so the proposal winds up being "opt in" rather than "opt out"?
I'm not advocating watching child porn and rape-porn (?) BTW! But I do think its wrong the Government want to block/restrict/check up on something which is otherwise legal, although as I say porn itself doesnt bother me as much per se. Its the principle.

yeah, these kind of filters will always be problematic, especially when harmful words get different meanings in different languages. "Slut" means "the end" in Swedish, and Hayao Miazaki's beloved animated film Laputa is "the whore" in Spanish

In the 1990's Mazda released a new model... Mazda Laputa... it was no hit in Spanish speaking areas

This filter system is clearly fucked up as it was blocking adult content which included advice on things like sexual health and self-harm (and as Hung mentioned, sex education sites) :(
