Best Hong Kong movies of 2013?
Wow I have not been here in years! Good to see all the old regulars are still here. Except .. what happened to Bradavon?
Anyway, since the death of Run Run Shaw I decided to watch The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Then got me thinking about Asian cinema and the fact that I haven't seen a new HK movie in about 5 years (ok maybe there were a few).
I wanna get back into the action and was wondering if anything interested has come out over the last year. So where is the best place to get this info, well good ol' BnB forum.
Any recommendations?

I don't think anyone's watching new HK movies anymore
I've only seen one (semi)recent (Chinese Zodiac) and that sucked too

Really? What a sad state of affairs I know HK film industry is all about the actor/singer/idol combo but they do occasionally churn out a classic.HungFist wrote:I don't think anyone's watching new HK movies anymore
Oh yes I did try The Grandmasters, but turned it off after 10 mins.

Re: Best Hong Kong movies of 2013?
For my part, was the last really good movie that I saw from Asia
Rorouni kenshin 2012
Viral factor 2012
Warriors of the rainbow 2011
Wu xia 2011
Flying swords of dragon gate 2011
Reign of assassins 2010
Yellow sea 2010
Fire of conscience 2010
True legend 2010
Man from nowhere 2010
These are the films that I still remember, the others I've forgotten. So in my opinion it has the last few years been very poor.

It takes me ages to catch up on "new" releases from Hong Kong.
I've only seen TWO films released in 2012:
1. CZ12 (Another Jackie disappointment) **
2. A Simple Life (Outstanding Ann Hui drama) ****

I'm so behind it's untrue.
I did like both Donnie Yen Ip Man films and Bruce Lee My Brother. Started off enjoying Detective Dee but found it a bit exhausting. Legend of the Fist and Shinjuku Incident were both disapointing messes.

Legend of the fist is a bit cold and fairly muddled, ultimately disappointinggrim_tales wrote:I havent seen Legend of the Fist or Little Big Soldier either :p

I'm going to have to agree with both. I was surprised with how much I liked Little Big Soldier after being so-so on many previous recent Jackie films. I don't think I ever want to see 1911 again. Now I'll still see any new film with Jackie in it, I just do not have that anticipation that I had years ago.luckystars wrote:Legend of the fist is a bit cold and fairly muddled, ultimately disappointinggrim_tales wrote:I havent seen Legend of the Fist or Little Big Soldier either :p

From what I heard on here mostly 1911 is a boring, political piece of crap and Jackie is hardly in it.

It felt like a cliff notes version of the 1911 uprising. I thought I did a capsule review of it, but can't find it. I really do not ever want to watch it again. It is still my least favorite film of 2011.grim_tales wrote:From what I heard on here mostly 1911 is a boring, political piece of crap and Jackie is hardly in it.

I haven't seen 1911, yet... but I wasn't impressed with Little Big Soldier.
Oh, and I haven't seen Legend of the Fist either.
