Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden (Kota Yoshida) (2014)

Post by HungFist »

Noriko Kijima, a gravure idol best known for winning the Grand Prix of Miss East Sports 2012, will be starring in a live-action adaptation of Makoto Fukami and Alpha AlfLayla's BDSM fetish manga Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden, which will include scenes of full nudity. Fellow gravure idol Haruna Yoshizumi will make her film debut as Kijima's co-star.

The manga was originally serialized in Monthly Young Ace. The story revolves around a secret "torture club" at a prestigious girls' high school in which students engage in various forms of discipline and torture on a daily basis for the purpose of spy training. Upon entering the school, Kijima's character Yuzuki is immediately recruited to the club by an older student named Aoi (Yoshizumi) who wants to get Yuzuki in on the action.

Noriko Kijima is a terrible actress, but what makes this interesting is that Kota Yoshida is helming it. Though Yoshida is uneven and perhaps over-rated too, his name is quite strongly associated with arthouse cinema. And I do adore his film Kyojima 3rd St., Sumida City (2010).

I don't know exactly how sexual this is supposed to be in nature (sorry, in my mind Japan + Torture = Oniroku Dan  ) but it seems like in the manga the main character is 13 years old... and the supporting ones are 10-16...

July release. The title Chotto Kawaii Iron Maiden means “A little bit cute Iron Maiden”.

Yoshida’s also got another manga adaptation coming June: Onna no ana (which translates as, ehm, A Woman's Hole…”).

Chotto kawaii Iron Maiden premiered yesterday. I read somewhere that Noriko Kijima is, in fact, going to go nude (at least topless) in this one. So not just a tease after all. Still, I fully expect the film to hit the DVD/BD in extended R18 form (though this is just my own speculation).

Not playing anywhere near me, at least so far. I'll be in Tokyo next weekend but probably won't have time for this because there's more important stuff screening from 35mm (Evil Dead Trap, Norifumi Suzuki retrospective, Nikkatsu action and Roman Porno etc.).

Guro Taku watched Onna no ana? How was it? Looks like there's both R15 and R18 versions in distribution. Recently it's getting really confusing with lots of Japanese films released in two versions, and then these versions distributed exclusively in different formats (e.g. Girl's Blood was R18 on VoD and retail BD/DVD, but R15 on rental DVD and in theaters)...

Japanese DVD and BD release date: November 21, 2014.

Image

As I expected, R18+ version included (107 min). The theaterical version (R15) is 97 min.

Then the serious irritation. The R18-version is only available in the expensive box sets (over 8000 yen street price). Furthermore, that box set is the only BD edition. There is no standard edition BD.

BD Box
- Disc 1: R18 version (BD)
- Disc 2: R15 version (DVD)
- Disc 3: Bonus materials (120 min) (DVD)

DVD Box
- Disc 1: R18 version (DVD)
- Disc 2: R15 version (DVD)
- Disc 3: Bonus materials (120 min) (DVD)

Standard Edition DVD
- Disc 1: R15 version (DVD)

This is the exact same thing they did with Aka x Pink (Girl's Blood). In fact, even the artwork is nearly identical...

We had a forum crash and some posts went missing. I'm now trying to fish the ones I can remember about via Google catche. Anyone feel free to re-post anything that went missing. Let me re-post this by Guro Taku

Am I the only one who finds the product placement in this film a bit surprising? I wouldn't have guessed that desigual and/or Monster Energy Drink would be interested in prominently featuring in a film that has a masturbation scene that climaxes in split screen squirting of vaginal fluids.

That aside, I found the film somewhat underwhelming. It's not really extreme, it's not really funny, it's not really engaging anyone with its melodramatic parts. If this was an anime it'd be just the gazillionth ecchi title but as a live action feature it has at least some novelty value.

My reaction may be influenced by the fact that I saw this as a double feature with Hitoshi Matsumoto's R100 (2013) on "S&M Night" and this was the second film. They don't have much in common except that they both deal with S&M/bondage in their own highly unrealistic ways.

I saw the R18 version and I gotta agree with Guro Taku. The first 60 min somewhat kept my interest, but after that I started looking for the fast forward button. It's a lesbian love story with some soft torture/bondage, plenty of nudity, and a storyline that just goes on for too long (107 min!). The problem is that, like Guro Taku said, the lesbian melodrama isn't really going to engage anyone. In this sense the film reminded me of Noboru Iguchi, who also tends to imagine that people are interested in the serious drama that he often insers at the end of in his otherwise whacky movies. It's a shame, Kota Yoshida can actually be a masterful drama director at times (Sumida-ku Kyôjima 3-chôme, 2010) but none of that is visible here.

I gotta say though, Noriko Kijima was much cuter than I remembered. And she does full frontal nudity thoughout the film! There's also another lead girl who "gives her all", but the rest fall into the gravute idol category, meaning they find ways to be naked yet somehow cover the strategic bits.

There's quite a bit of below-the-belt nudity in the film, ranging from non-sex scenes with uncensored pubic hair galore to sex scenes with very thin mosaic (so thin that at first I thought the camera was just off-focus). Some people who saw the R15 theatrical / festival version mentioned "censorship strawberries" that appear in the image, but no such thingies are in the R18 version. In fact, there's even something that looks like a fake-pussy in a very dark shot (there's certainly some flesh between her fingers...) that they miraculously got away with uncensored.

Summary: It would be hard to argue against of you wanted to see the film just to enjoy naked Noriko Kijima, but there isn't much else to write home out. It's not a terrible movie; it's just not very interesting one. The film also looks quite digital, but at least it's high quality digital so it's not much of a problem.

Interesting note: Not a single male is ever seen in the movie, not even in the background!

Occasional stylish shot.

Nori-chan is really hot

This poor girl is mistreated throughout the film

Shower slapping

This is probably the funniest torture scene but I won't spoil it

I'm being mean here. If I posted the screencap I took a few seconds later, you could see her boobs.

That chamber is actually the "Iron Maiden"

Director Yoshida must have been proud of this shot as he put his name over it!

That's a really good and 100% valid comparison! I've intensely disliked Iguchi's attempts at melodrama since MACHINE GIRL and this film makes many of the same mistakes.

That's kind of a pity because the strawberry censorship was one of the few things that made me laugh and the audience was right with me.

That looks very silly and quite a bit less risque than TORTURE CLUB. What's it rated in Japan? If TORTURE CLUB was R-15 this should be R-12, right?

I can't see rating anywhere, maybe hasn't been decided yet. I would expect R-15 and some romantic soft-core sex scenes in the film.

Torture Club was really streching the limits of the rating. It was probably as close to R18 as possible without being R18 (although I've only seen the R18 version)

This came out on DVD (no BD) quite a while ago (May 2015) and in the meantime Kota Yoshida has had another film hit theaters and now DVD/BD: Suki demo nai kuseni (好きでもないくせに, 2016). I think the title translates to something like "Even though I don't like it...".

Rated R-18 so while it looks more like a serious drama about love and sexual relationships (as opposed to the manga silliness of Yoshida's last couple films) there must be some full frontal nudity to justify the rating.

Holy SHIT! I bought this 5 years ago? Anyway, I finally sat down and watched it and it's a pretty good film. Definitely a lot better than Iron Maiden and with a lot less sex and nudity. The R18 is due to brief full-frontal nudity from gravure idol Yumi Ishikawa. The film is split pretty evenly into two separate stories, the first one being "A Woman's Holes" and dealing with a high school girl who got taken over by a space alien and now wants to learn about love and sex (as well as conceive a baby) from one of her teachers. It's pretty funny and even sort of sweet. You can view it as a very different take on the same concepts as Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin (2013). The second story, titled "A Woman's Pig" is about another schoolgirl getting coached by a horned demon chick into blackmailing and bullying a gay teacher she actually has a crush on. It's not terrible but much less engaging than the first story. Luckily for the film, the final 13 minutes take us back to the first story and its conclusion. Then there's an absolutely outstanding song playing over the end credits with lyrics about super-comfy deep, deep holes!

The title actually translates to "I Don't Even Like You" and yes, the R18 is due to a couple full frontal shots of gravure model turned actress Riko, who plays the lead here. There is indeed no silliness to be found in the film as it's a serious drama about a girl who can only have sex with guys she doesn't actually like. This mostly means Goda (Ryosuke Kawamura of Noboru Iguchi's MACHINE GIRL), a colleague from the hostess club she works at and who's in love with her. One day when they're bar-hopping with Goda's college friends, she meets aloof male model Riku (Takuya Negishi) and falls for him. But guess what? Riku is a major sleazebag and only interested in fucking as many girls as he can... Sex scenes are of the realistic variety and the acting from Kawamura and Riko is uneven. Both are mostly alright but struggle with the more emotional scenes and, in Riko's case, with playing drunk. Negishi fares better but then again he's playing a robot without discernable emotions to begin with.

Thought I already posted the poster so here's that:
