It came out over 6 months ago and was met with almost universal praise as an excellent release- so "wait for reviews" was sorted early.if you are into your slipcovers then i'd have thought back then was the time to buy to get a pretty good certainty of a mint one.

The Creature Called Man (1970). Kiyoshi Nismimura's heroic bloodhed thriller about an honorable professional killer who falls in love with a woman while being chased by a tough detective. And that's not where the John Woo similarities end.

I wasn't planning to pick up the New Battles set, but it was only $21.99 + shipping at Amazon, and I still own part 3 on DVD. I can probably get the equivalent of $10 when I sell that DVD.

Do you think Woo ever saw The Creature Called Man, sounds familliar :) He was influenced a lot by Chang Cheh too (and The Killer shares some themes with Le Samourai imo) but who knows

Ordered:
The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (Standard Edition, UK) BD

Hard to say. It could all be coincidence, but then again, Woo has cited for example Teruo Ishii's An Outlaw (1964) as one major inspiration so who knows. I guess it depends on if the film ever played in HK or not.

Three Roman Porno films: Tooru Murakawa's ultra stylish youth / pickpocket drama Delicate Skilful Fingers (1972), Noboru Tanaka's existential arthouse drama Secret Chronicle: She Beast Market (1974) and Toshiya Fujita's "Tarantino style" revenge drama Girl's Pleasure: Man Hunting (1977).

+ Tatsumi Kumashiro's masterpiece Failed Youth (1974) and Shinji Somai's surreal youth odyssey / film gem P.P. Rider (1983) which was written by Paul Schrader btw.
