Yum, tasty sauce.
Thanks. :D

EDIT: no wait. They're gonna AIR it, not release it.
Not interested in that, sorry.
I'm interested in the stuff you can actually BUY (actual HD titles), but thanks anyway.

Ughhh FUCK! That Madame Tussauds 'Andy Lau' still hadn't been fixed up! The UK had better artwork but the Edko (non-diagonal - the diagonal was stupid) is a prefered choice.

The likes of Volcano High better contain both international and Korean versions. Make good use of this format!!

So, I'll need 3 bluray disc players then... region A, B and C? (Because apparently they'll be "nigh-impossible" to hack?)

Hell, bring on the European Toshiba HD players. They don't know what frakking region coding is, and they'll never learn :D
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Blu-Ray:
Region A = America, Hong-Kong, Korea, Japan.
Region B = Europe, Africa, Kiwi-land.
Region C = China, Russia.

I recon we're gonna need about 6 players if we want the ability to play all HD titles. :D

Why bother? Two BRD players is all that you'd need , since Region C releases will likely suck just like DVD Region 5 & 6 releases mostly do now.

One thing I do like about the Blu-Ray format is that you'll be able to download subtitles direct to the machine, so (as is the case with plenty of DVDs now) if your preferred disc doesn't have the necessary subs for you, it shouldn't be a problem now.

But, I'm waiting for all the dust to settle before I get HD'd up. Either that, or (more likely) my resolve will have crumbled by the time the PS3 comes out

That's only the theory, whether in reality it will take off is another matter.

Just companies trying to hoover up money. As much as they seem definative, they'll have lots of things purists will hate - no mono and annoying anti-copy issues - which whilst I don't like to see abused by general arseholes in the boot industry, I like to have the emergency option (don't make fun of what I said :) ).

Yeah, but don't you think it has potential? It's an interesting feature, certainly for the likes of us who a) watch a lot of films where English isn't the primary language and b) where we have lots of threads debating (ad nauseum some would say ;)) the merits of one release against another and how some people are restricted in what's worth having due to language issues.

As for whether or not it'll take off, well, the main beneficiaries will be people like us who demand films in the director's cut, and with suitable subtitling. So, it's in our hands now, people! :D

Rikidozan added to the list.

I don't understand what these studios are doing, releasing only a few titles per month.
All they'd have to do is release Pedicab Driver or Ashes of Time on HD-DVD/Blu-Ray and they'd have me by the balls. :D

The DVD of Brave Story has English subs, I don't why the HD versions won't.

The detaisl for Innocence are a little confused. It's a 3 disc release and will include the International version with various subs. But I think that probabaly means just the regular Innocence international version DVD. It's going to be an impressive release. 2 layers, 7.1 PCM and gorgeous enough on DVD.
It's been aired in 1080 before and didn't look much better than the DVD. This *should* be a new transfer though.

Blood: The Last Vampire and Steamboy are also on the way for Blu-ray.

Fingers crossed for an HD-DVD of Innocence. I've been watching Stand Alone Complex and it's not a patch on either of Oshii's masterpieces.

Blu-ray - Air LE boxset. Anime series based on the best-selling romance/pr0n game.

- Brave Story -
Check out the DVD release of the hit fantasty/adventure tale "Brave Story"!
The main chracter Wataru is an average 11-year-old boy. He is having a deep pain facing his mother's collapse. One day he discovers a strange door in a deserted building, and witnesses his mysterious schoolmate Mitsuru entering the door. He tells Wataru that through the door there is a different world where people can change their destiny and be granted one wish. Wataru decides to proceed, embarking on a dangerous trip to change his destiny.
Based on the novel by Naoki prize winning novelist Miyuki Miyabe. Features vocal performances from Takako Matsu, Yo Oizumi, Eiji Wentz (WaT), and more. Brought to you by Fuji TV, Gonzo, and Warner!
The DVD is available in three varieties: Standard edition (Limited Pressing) , Special Edition, and Collector's Box. Special Edition includes one bonus disc,Collector's Box fetures two bonus discs. The first pressing of the Collector's Box comes with a 1/24 second frame from the movie (available while "First Press Available" button appears on the screen). Every version includes English Subtitles.
HD DVD version and Blue-ray version are also available (These versions do not include English Subtitles).
Nevermind then.

"Standard edition (Limited Pressing) , Special Edition, and Collector's Box."
Odd, why make the barebones release limited and the better release not limited?

I've added ETD UK HD-DVD too. It's the exact same disc as the USA btw (including FBI warnings).

No doubt because the English soundtrack is missing?

EDIT I tried posting this link over at The Imports Forum, it got removed asking I don't post links to other forums. Go Figure!

Hard Boiled comes to HD: http://www.theimportforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8656

But you have to buy the PS3 version of Stranglehold to get it. There are various source links further down the thread.

Very cool. If only 1 Woo film were to be released in HD, its Hard-Boiled for sure. But, sadly, I don't own a PS3 nor am I looking forward to purchasing one just yet (I still like my PS2). I'll just wait till July 24th to get H-B on DVD.
