Crime Story was a good movie, less happy with The Protector.

Crime Story will no doubt be the crappy Miramaxe version.

Pity because if it wasn't I'd accept The Protector as a glorified extra (it's not that bad).

drees5761 wrote:Interesting new Bruce Lee Blu ray releases in Japan later this year. It looks like you will have the option of 4 dub tracks, Mandarin / Cantonese / English Dubbed / Japanese dub. Also it says Japanese theatrical version, which could be interesting because these have a different music track..see here for details....http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=203248
same Fortune Star Transfers ....here's caps from the clearly unrestored Japanese Theatrical version included in HD as an extra on the disc.

If they'd have used the theatrical cut of PS2 I'd have been tempted to go for it, but it's the extended version by the looks of it.

I guess their 'value' is they are much cheaper than the HK counterparts

As crap as they seem... if they offer IN-SYNC mono and SUBtitles then they might just be the best versions available (for English speakers). Reportedly, the JP BD of PS1 is proper HD.

I have the Joy Sales box set... someone needs to release PS2 in its theatrical (aka Jackie) cut, otherwise I will send my money elsewhere...

Yeah, I have the Joy Sales set too still. I'd like to see the Jackie cut of PS2 in proper HD.

Damn. Shout Factory are one of the best fan-friendly companies in the West, this is disappointing to hear. I am curious how they pried the rights away from the Weinsteins. Apparently many classics of HK cinema are just going to never, ever get proper releases, all there seems to be to it. Sad stuff.

Grim: shout are being given FS transfers,. the BD's will have audio options and subs, then it's up to you how you found the KR transfers. personally i found BB to be a revelation. FOF colour scheme to be the subject of debate but i found it pleasing on subsequent viewing, WOTD not nice, but this film always looks horrible. GOD an upscale, avoid.best version is the JP BD which has the Jap cinema version in HD as an extra.

Eleven discs:

The Big Boss x 2 discs (BD/DVD)
Fist of Fury x 2 discs (BD/DVD)
The Way of the Dragon x 2 discs (BD/DVD)
Game of Death x 2 discs (BD/DVD)
Bruce Lee the Legend/Bruce Lee: The Man, the Legend (DVD)
I am Bruce Lee (DVD)
Bonus disc (DVD)

The price is way too high though.
RRP: $120 (or £78) for four movies plus extras.

Even if they are genuine HD (which would be a first for Shout Factory) and contain original Mandarin mono and proper subtitles (a lot of ifs here...) I'd be looking to pay roughly half that amount.

EDIT: More info from Shout!

"We have color corrected the first three masters.
Original Mono on the first two.
If someone has the original mono for WAY, send me an PM.
BIG BOSS also features a English dub never before used.. thanks to Toby Russell
"

Full Game of Death footage will be included. Unconfirmed if SD or HD yet.

The Fox UE of WAY has the original mono so it should be easy for Shout to add (as long as they check the sync).

Won't The Legend/Man and the Legend be the same as the HKL DVD or maybe there were different versions produced?

I'll wait for reviews but it sounds a good set.
Its annoying the movies are on DVD as well though, I dont mind DVD extras but having a DVD of the movie as well as BD - whats the point?
Why are Shout "asking" if someone has the original Mono for WAY? As you say Mark, the Fox edition has it so cant they speak to them?
Is the unused dub for BOSS the deeper voiced one featured in some trailers?
