Thanks,excellent stuff they both look pretty much identical to me

Deltamac has sharper picture and has better audio (DTS and strong DD 5.1 track in both Cantonese and Mandarin) but is slightly cropped from all sides of the picture format and has bits of odd subtitling here and there.

Cine-Asia has a DD 2.0 stereo track which should be the one to watch the movie with, superior subs (forced but not burned-in) for both the movie and the extras (all extras are subbed, even the gala premier which Deltamac didn't bother to work on), shows more information from all sides of the picture format but the picture is slightly blurred and the DVD comes with a surprisingly weak DD 5.1 track (it still appears to be a bit strong though).

What are those horizontal lines on the R2? Is that interlacing?



Surely the film was Dolby Digital? I would suggest 5.1 at least?

I was wondering why Beat would prefer 2.0 too?

The HK DVD definitely looks superior. It's sharper and doesn't have a pathetic 224Kbps DD5.1 soundtrack. What were the UK studio thinking? Giving it such a stupidly low bitrate.

p.s - Does anyone have the DD R1 to add too?

The HK DVD is clearly horizontally stretched a little, on the other hand it's certainly sharper.

Oh yeah. I hadn't even noticed. The rubbish audio alone is enough reason for me to favour the HK over UK DVD.

The cropping and stretching wouldn't bother me, both are minor IMO.

Me neither, I doubt that either would be noticeable whilst the film is in motion.

Still, I'd only the buy the Dragon Dynasty, for the meaty-sounding extras. There's a high likelihood that the commentary alone it will be excellent, judging by how outstanding the Bey/Yen track on Iron Monkey HKL was.

Definitely. The DD is the only DVD that interests me too.

Don't get me wrong. I usually listen to DD 5.1 tracks but since it's low on the DVD, I'm better off with the DD 2.0 stereo track since it's meatier and overall sounds nicer. actually, listening to DD 2.0 tracks is a must for me too because somehow I find all the sounds satisfactory and quite a different experience from listening to a DD 5.1 track (not that it's inferior or anything, just different) but that's just me so I'm not sure about y'all. But all in all, I like listening to both and and this case I choose the stereo track because again it's sounds stronger.

Each of the 3 available DVDs have their own attributes and I wish R2 got it right as I love their artwork.

Maybe combine all elements to get the perfect version (which would lose quality sadly).

With regards to the missing image info - the same happened with Fortune Star-sourced transfers where in 'Hapkido': HKL got the full image, but the Japanese had the left/right sides cropped (Spectrum don't seem to have that problem, where as IVL/Joy Sales etc do). I don't know why it happens.

I bet it's because they used such a low bitrate across all six channels, instead of a similar bitrate across just 2 channels.

The HK DVD seems the sharpest but only the UK DVD is a problem.

Just noticed something strange with the DD subtitles.
The good:
It translates every bit of dialog word for word, while the DeltaMac is very broad.

The bad:
That leads to some moments of odd phrasing, or Chinglish.

R2 has the best subs. It's pretty similar to Deltamac word for word, but re-subs some phrases properly and also joins separated lines making the read much easier.

That's basically what DD did for Kill Zone. I wish they'd done the same with Flash Point.
