Ray Winstone in Sweeney Todd on BBC2 tonigtht

Post by grim_tales »

Thought you may be interested in this Brad (can't remember if you saw it). A few years ago at Christmas the BBC did a version of the Sweeney Todd story (non musical), with Ray Winstone in the role. This version takes place in 18th century London. I thought it was very good :D
Its being repeated tonight you see :) BBC2 9pm - 10:30pm.

Thanks Grim but it doesn't really interest me.

It looks like a TV movie and while there is nothing wrong with that as such I don't have time to watch it, and have other things stored to watch instead.

In a cinematic film, yes. He's outstanding in Nil By Mouth, such power as an actor.

Scum is excellent. It's not one I'd want to watch too often though, the rape scene is intense.

What's wrong with him in a TV film may I ask?

Ok...

Lets hear it for Britian's first horror star Tod Slaughter, the Sweeney Todd of 1936 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUuCGQbUORY

The funny one was The Greed of William Hart, which was about Burke and Hare until the BBFC made them change the names by dubbing, lest they "glorify criminals"

The Body Snatchers (Boris Karloff version) was originally heavily cut to remove any reference to Burke and Hare.

BASTARDS!!!!

I just love that ultra creepy "No Joeseph, THIS is how they Burked them..."

The BBFC also put the axe on a film of Dylan Thomas's play The Doctor And The Devils. It was finally filmed in 1985

The Flesh and The Fiends thankfully didn't have to suffer such stupidity
