Free listings, is impressive but is it very heard of? No point, if no one goes to to. £5 off is a must though. I'll go looking. Thanks. Shaolin Soccer is also £5.98 too:

p.s - Postage looks to be Standard or Recordeded, so not free.

You know what I mean - R3 subs or dumbed down subs?

Re: £5 off first order at Priceminister
Obviously dumbed down.
I'm going to check when I get mine but only the first batch or something like that of the UK DVD had the dumbed down ones. It's supposed to be a marked improvement in the AV department though. If they are dumbed down I'll keep the R3 DVD. I love the subs too much to get rid. As odd as that sounds.

They're not "dumbed down" though, as Tom's old thread points out they are a more literal translation of what is being said in Mandarin, whereas as the "poetic" subs are simply transcriptions of the original English script.
There are no bad choices when it comes to English subtitles for CTHD, simple as that.

Whilst true, the newer subs definitely read more dumbed down. Literal translations are often the wrong choice when converting from one language to another.Shingster wrote:They're not "dumbed down" though, as Tom's old thread points out they are a more literal translation of what is being said in Mandarin, whereas as the "poetic" subs are simply transcriptions of the original English script.
That depends if you prefer the newer or older subs. The older ones are much better in my and many other opinions.Shingster wrote:There are no bad choices when it comes to English subtitles for CTHD, simple as that.

Re: £5 off first order at Priceminister
Oh do shut up Brad, my point is that both translations offer a reasonably accurate translation of what is being said on screen. Neither offer a "bad" translation.
I never said the Blu-ray subs were exactly literal, I said they're more literal than the original subs because the original subs are based off the English script. What is being spoken in CTHD is NOT the English script, it's a later Mandarin draft based on the original English script (as CTHD was written in English first) - ergo it makes more sense to translate what is being said on screen rather than what was in a script that never actually made it to the recording process. I'm not saying the original English subs have no merit, as they offer a more succinct translation, but it is completely unfair to refer to the newer/blu-ray translation as "dumbed down" if it's a good representation of what is being said on screen.
Dumbed down suggests they took Mandarin dialogue and westernised it for illiterate Americans and people as thick as Brad, in CTHD's case they wrote an English script and then translated/tweaked it into Mandarin. By all accounts the Blu-ray subs simply offer a decent translation of the end stage of that process. The old DVD/Theatrical subs simply offer the first stage of that process. The options boil down to personal preference not "right and wrong" or "good and bad". If Brad keeps blabbering on about this I emplore you to completely ignore him Grim.
To ignore the excellent Blu-ray release, which offers a significantly better presentation of the film than the DVD releases purely on the basis of which translation is being used would be what is truly "dumb"!

Only on Bullets could a thread about a £5 voucher end up in a spat about Subtitles on a near 10 year old Chinese film

Re: £5 off first order at Priceminister
If so, that's crazy:
1. £5 Off first order
2. £5 Cash Back
3. 8% Back
That's more than you've paid for the disc in the first place.

"If" it pays off
who knows.
It just says that
It just says that
I am just going from that short sentence, but it would be funny if I got £5 for spending under £5 (which has happened with other sites mind you, so it does happen). I will give it a while to track and get validated, hopefully not to longfor your first purchase on PriceMinister. This first purchase has to be confirmed by PriceMinister as valid.

Surely it's referring to the £5 off, you get from "Price Minister"?
