Perfect Blue R2J vs Perfect Blue R2J Remaster
This is a quick comparison between the 1997 Jewel CD, and the 2008 Jewel Box remaster. Bare in mind, because playback is done via laptop, all comparisons, especially DVD, are just mere glimpses of what's seen when viewed correctly on a T.V. and box. There's also weaving, but that's a separate issue. I own a small fortune of imported Japanese animation, and was curious the quality of their early DVDs. Picture quality's superb, looking uncompressed as any other. The 5.1 however is inferior, and sounds compressed. Fortunately the Jewel Box fixes this, and you now get lossless audio like you do other titles. There is the issue of Scanner Noise though (something another user pointed out), which can obscure detail that was seen in 1997. Still, image is indeed new, with fresh colors and updated sound.

Thanks for the comparison. I have the 2008 DVD. Also got to see this in 35mm some years ago.

Yep. If you could take the color and sound from 2008, and use the picture from 1997, we'd be great.
