so far its just system 3 releasing there old games (last ninja, impossible mission) fingers crossed other companies jump aboard. honestly cannon fodders ideal for the wii-remote, (c'mon jon hare, you know you want too)Kurgan wrote:I hope and pray that someone will have the foresight to release Creatures and Creatures II: Torture Trouble from the C64.
And you're right, Cannon Fodder would be great to play
I've used the VIP thing on Ninty's site since the launch of the GameCube, and got a few things from there, but I am now very interested in how the conversion will work out. Something tells me that it won't be a 1:1 rate, though
the europe VIP is terrible though, 5 years of pdf files and toss like that, while the japanese get actual mario hats, games and controllers.
so its about time we had something decent though.
You're right about the ratio, i can't see it being 1:1, i reckon it'll be like, one game = 1000 - 1500 star points, don't foget you get 750 with the wii (500 for the console, 250 for wii sports)

I only got 250 points for the Wii! Robbin' bastards! They owe me another 250!
I managed to snag a few things from the site. You had to be damn quick for some of them though. I remember checking in at 9.10 one morning, to find out that they'd put platinum GameCubes on there at 9.00 and that they'd all gone by the time I'd logged in

ok kurgan this should please you then
Dear new Wii owners,
Sorry for the confusion about this issue. Allow us to clear it up.
The correct Stars value of the Wii console is 500 Stars, however some users who registered at launch received 250 Stars. This was caused by an error in our system which has now been corrected. We are aware of those people who did not receive the full amount of Stars and we will be sending them an additional 250 Stars.
Please note that the bundled Wii Sports game is worth 250 Stars on its own, so you should receive a total of 750 Stars for registering your Wii pack.
Stay tuned to the site for info on when you can use your Stars to purchase Wii Points!
Kind regards,
Your Nintendo team
source here http://community.nintendo-europe.com/co ... PerPage=20
so hopefully you should get get the remainder points soon.
remember that for every day you check your VIP account you get 5points its not alot i know but if it helps you get some classic games its worth it.

No idea, I'm afraid. It is available on PS2, but as far as I know, that's all it's available on.
Can't comment on the differences in quality, although I'd bet the load times on the PS2 are much longer
And thanks Blaizey, my mind is slightly more soothed with that news
I've gotten into the habit of visiting the Ninty site every day for just that reason. I have made almost as many points from visits as I have from the games

I was checking the local Gamestation shop yesterday and saw Zelda on Gamecube. Chcking the graphics, it seems to be on par with the Wii version, so I was thinking to myself is Wii a recycled Gamecube, just with motion sensor?
Now got my latest Develop magazine, and there is a discussion regarding Nintendo, their DS and Wii licence and lack of 3rd party game (due to licence). One of the programmer said the inside talk was that Wii is just a gamecube plus and DS was just a GBA and N64. It also talked that the reason that Wii is cheap was that it is the gamecube components..
I'm still sitting on the fence, but personally to me, Wii is next gen only on the controller, but not the actual hardware.

Nintendo have distanced themselves from Microsoft and Sony in the next-gen hardware battle, specifically for the reason that their hardware isn't as powerful; there isn't as much of a graphical leap between the GameCube and the Wii, when you compare it to the Xbox and the Xbox360 or the PS2 and PS3.

Indeed, my fear is that Wii is actually gamecube repackaged up with just the new controller - motion sensor and new o/s built in.Kurgan wrote:Nintendo have distanced themselves from Microsoft and Sony in the next-gen hardware battle, specifically for the reason that their hardware isn't as powerful; there isn't as much of a graphical leap between the GameCube and the Wii, when you compare it to the Xbox and the Xbox360 or the PS2 and PS3.
I just now want to see a comparison of both gamecube and wii version of Zelda

The new "Zelda" was always meant to be a last generation game for the Cube. They decided to postpone its release in order to work on the Wiimote functionality so they can release the game for the Wii launch. The only difference between the Cube version and the Wii version is obviously the control scheme and that Link is right-handed for the first time ever in the Wii-version. Hence, everything is mirrored in the Wii version. So if you ever read a walkthrough for the Cube version and expect it to work for you in the Wii version, you should head East whenever you are told to head West.
The Wii is more powerful than the Cube, though. Hence you won't find any slowdowns in Zelda for example on the Wii as it runs with static 60 fps. On the Cube you are far more likely to experience slowdowns.
What Nintendo decided to do was not to interfere with Microsoft's and Sony's hardware battle, as Kurgan already pointed out. Nintendo's philosophy is that new gaming experiences or a revolution in gaming cannot be achieved by better graphics at the time being. The jump from 2D to 3D offered new types of games. Maybe for the next generations of consoles as well, but then what? Something new had to come and here came the awesome controller. This again allows a revolution is gaming.
And Nintendo has one clear advantage over Sony and Microsoft. Most third-party game developers are developing for Nintendo now. I'm not getting any games that were there already and only transformed into Wii versions. The exclusive titles are what count on this console and as so many third-party developers are working for Nintendo, there are gonna be loads of exclusive Nintendo titles in the future. Unfortunately, Nintendo had a shortage of games for the N64 and it didn't look all too well for the GCN either compared to PS2. But PS3 has been out in Japan for how long? And there are still only like 10 games or so.
The reason so many third-party developers decided to work with Nintendo is quite interesting. I read an interview with the head of UbiSoft (don't remember his name). He said that usually when a company presents their new console to them, the representing person throws with numbers at the developers. Boring conferences. They expected the same of the next Nintendo conference. However, they came with nothing but a prototype of the Wii's controller and even before the conference at UbiSoft was over, the UbiSoft game developers played with so many different ideas of new, great gaming possibilities.
One of the most interesting conversation I have recently read the transcript of is at the official Nintendo website. It is a conversation between Satoru Iwata (the current head of Nintendo) and some of the Nintendo developing team leaders (including Shigeru Miyamoto). They talk a lot about the development of the Wii and what difficulties they faced. It is a long read, but you should definitely check it out.

The weather report works fine (I know you meant the question for LD, but I thought I'd jump in
). It doesn't go to town-by-town basis, so I've had to choose Leeds as my locality, which isn't too far away.
As far as time, the hour that you stated earlier is overkill. The updates should take 10 minutes at most.
The machine, for the most part, is ready out of the box.

Weather channal is cool. Just checked it out and my town is in it. In fact there is a globus you can circulate and zoom in. Kinda like Google Earth, only that you can't go that close.
As for the time it takes to update, it took about 45 minutes to do the very first two updates. But that is probably because I did the update on launch date of the Wii and there were probably thousands of people trying to do the same thing on the same server. The weather channal update took only like 3 - 5 minutes.

Well, I'm using the Wii itself to type in this message, after having just signed up for a replacement strap using the little machine
I've downloaded Sonic, Gunstar Heroes and Bomberman from the Wii Shop. Just the Sonic jingle brought a smile to my face, which after the crappiness I've been through lately is no mean feat. There's also an addition made to the VIP section on the Nintendo site, but it's shrouded in mystery...

got my Wii for xmas, what can i say but Wow
the downside, i was incredibly ill all xmas day, literally openend 1 pressie then threw up, opened 1 more then threw up again. Finally felt well enough to set up my Wii, put on wii sports a quick go of baseball, then threw up again. So to have a rest i set up the wiiconnect24, so while it was updating (took a good 30mins) i had a doze, so after feeling a bit better i put on Wii play, great collection of games on it especially shooting and billiards.
Didn't actually play Zelda till about 5 at night, had a quick look, fantastic, after a quick doze after dinner, and feeling better i put wii sports back on, and my whole house became full of laughter and cheers as we spent all night playing it.
Everyone who's come round, including aunties, cousins, friends etc. played on the Wii and all were amazed by it, and now all want one. Even non game players have had a go and loved it, although i'm sick of losing at bowling to my parents and my aunties. I don't think since the early days of gaming has my family all been round a tv playing games and being amazed, and having a good ol' time.
All in all the Wii is great, i fully recommended it.
If you have a Wii, Pm me for my wii code (LD think i already sent it to you).
