No, I'm referring to the fact that the characters rarely talked to each other in a normal conversational fashion; they gave speeches all the time. The dialogue crossed the line into pretentiousness and self-importance too often for my taste. I would've liked to have seen a more natural approach to the drama.

Now that you mention it: I did think Bale's Batman voice was too affected.

Aren't you nitpicking Mark? Batman Begins was excellent. I don't think it was perfect. IMO I've always thought the villain was weak, something it looks like they've fixed in Batman 2.

Mark's pretty much on the button if you ask me! Begins is great fun, but for the first hour or so the script is just a series of soundbites set to sweeping camera movements and pacy direction from Nolan. The effect is like watching a trailer for the first time, you feel like you're just getting the footnotes of a much bigger story (which is true I guess).

It did probably take to long to get to the meat of the story.

I would've found 'Bruce Wayne' more interesting if he had killed 'Joe Chill'. At least it would've spared us the self-righteous moral speeches from 'Rachel Dawes'. Batman is "The Dark Knight" not "Superman" He should be moral but not a goody-two-shoes. "The Punisher" had the right idea. 8)

The posters are far, far, far better than the awful Trailer god that was one hell of a let down, not a single wow moment in it.

I have it on HD-DVD too (and R3 DVD), except unlike you I cannot play the bloody thing

Yeah it got updated to 1.1 like yesterday/the previous night. Good isn't it! I couldn't tell you about the DTS-HD support for sure, but I'm thinking not.

I remember reading that Warner was waiting for the BD-Java or whatever to be finished with Blu-ray, so now we're at 1.1, it will hopefully be coming soon

Strangely Warner only recently released T3 on BD but opted to use fake PIP instead.

I don't know why people buy standalone blu-ray players. The PS3 never seems to have a problem playing any disc, whenever you read about certain players struggling with certain discs, the PS3 has no problems lol. And here we are with it being updated to profile 1.1, whereas other players can't!

If I "had" to pick between a PS3 and standalone BD Player I'd pick the BD Player, no contest. I'd do some research to find a decent one though. Not that I ever plan to buy either.

Why would you choose that over the PS3?

Problems playing discs on standalone BD Players aside which I'm discounting as I don't want one so haven't remotely looked into how serious they actually are or how often, I don't want a PS3 as it's a Games Console and I don't play computer games.

Because it's a Games Console it's completely the wrong shape too, everything else I have is separates shaped. It has way more functionality (which I'm paying for) than I ever need.

I'd want a BD Player from the PS3 and that's it. A standalone BD Player would give me that in a dedicated separates fashion, again discounting any problems they may have. Taking that into account the PS3 is bloody expensive. The Samsung Combo is £485 and allows me to (roughly) play double the films the PS3 could ever manage.

If I did want a BD Player and I did research to find out all BD Players except for the PS3 were utter shit (which I very much doubt they're shit) I'd simply get nothing. It's all a moot point though as I'd never buy either a HD-DVD or BD Player unless I could also play the other format too.

Incidentally surely Sony's BD Players are as good as their PS3 is? They're the same bloody make. I've only ever read about dodgy Samsung BD Players, not that I've read "into it" at all.

p.s - It's definitely great news the PS3 is now Profile 1.1 compliant though. The more BD Players that are the better.

I just saw a very cool PC for 900 euro (Core2Duo 6750) which has a HDDVD-BluRay player installed!
Sadly, I'm leaving tomorrow to my girlfriend's house so I wont be buying it (they only sell the pc at a certain chainstore)

Great specs, pretty decent brand, but I will wait till januari/februari to pick up a new pc, and this pc will probably already be sold out by then, in that local store, cause they always only buy limited supplies and dont restock.

Another reason to buy a PS3:- The upcoming PVR addon with dual DVB-T tuners. PS3's can be easily upgraded with any 2.5" SATA drive and it doesn't void the warranty.
