Agreed, dreadful. I hope they don't stuff the OUATIC Trilogy up.
romerojpg wrote:Shame about the price tags! £17.99 is nasty!
Nasty yes but the price will go down for sure.

I thought you despise Tartan transfers? Yet you buy their shit anyway.

You wouldn't be judging a transfer based on static screencaps now would you Brad? I mean, they don't show stuff like screen blur, etc!
grim_tales wrote:I appreciate PS never looked that great, it was quite low budget but those shots look awful, not detailed. Really fuzzy.
People keep saying this, but Police Story was shot on 35mm just like most action films in the 80s, it shouldn't look bad on Blu-ray at all! That transfer looks standard definition to me, they've just applied some artificial sharpening techniques to try and boost the detail and instead ended up producing an image with big chunky grain detonating all over the place.

It's not uncommon for titles to fall through the cracks, we're reliant on the PR companies to supply us with the titles rather than Optimum themselves and I think Shaolin Soccer was part of a release batch that were never sent out.

A quick look in the Tartan Asian Films thread reveals more trashing of Tartan (which in fairness they did deserve a lot of stick) and gloating over their downfall:

Your reply to the news Tartan went bust:

Yup I felt no pain in their demise thats for sure  apart from some good films which would miss out on HD treatment. As far as I know they are not back anyway, a different company took them over? and all new people run the place and do the discs, so in other words not old Tartan at all. Why they use the name is beyond me as it has stigma and budget written all over it now.

And you still say you "suddenly" like them? Make your mind up.
romerojpg wrote:As far as I know they are not back anyway, a different company took them over?
You reckon the current crop of pre-orders weren't mastered by the old Tartan? Get real if you think the new Tartan is going to create new Masters.
romerojpg wrote:and all new people run the place and do the discs, so in other words not old Tartan at all.
Do you have proof of this or are you guessing? I could equally believe Paladises (or whatever they're called) kept some of the Tartan staff on too. They know the business, it would make sense.

Get real about them creating new discs, from titles they've already released (save SEs obviously).
romerojpg wrote:Why they use the name is beyond me as it has stigma and budget written all over it now.
Only in the land of Romero. Everyone else is able to be subjective about it and see what was good as equally bad about them. Tartan is a well known name, it would be stupid to change the name when it's an established name.

Sure they got bashed a far bit and could've done better sometimes but equally I've seen far worse companies. They were only ever bashed in certain segments of the market. Sure it was annoying they kept giving us NTSC to PAL but that aside they released loads of releases monthly, that since their demise no on else has started release. Save for Third Window Films and Artificial Eye but neither are as prolific as Tartan were.

Budget? Ha ha that's hilarious. Since when did budget studios put out 2 Disc SEs full of extras and DTS on every title? I bet we see similar traits in the new company. The new covers look very much like old Tartan style. Hopefully they'll only get better.

Romero you talk so much bullshit at times. You've constantly bashed Tartan since day dot.

I've only posted on this forum for months and months. You're so 2000 and late :D.

WTF! That's hilarious :D. No one's ever wished me death, except maybe Tigercage and he even PMed me recently to end all that shit. Get with the program and stop peddling the same old shite.

You always resort to jabs when you're losing an discussion. You're the king of bullshit and exaggeration, something everyone here has proven time and time again.
