It's supposed to be pretty much a scene-for-scene adaptation of three of the stories from the original graphic novels. Rodriguez set out to make faithful recreations of the source material and that's what we got, he's hardly to blame for what Frank Miller chooses to draw/write.

Have to say I agree with Brad on Sin City.

Brilliantly stylised, but a nihilistic, misogynist glamourisation of violence and brutality... or a 14-year-old geek's wet dream.

You can blame Rodriguez for following the material so slavishly.

He COULD have made a different movie but chose not to.

Like I said, I havent seen the movie yet (heard good things about it), but in my opinion it's a good thing that Rodriquez respects the sourcematerial and stays true to it.

Rodriquez could have made his OWN movie based on the Sin City stories, but maybe then it wouldnt really be Frank Miller's Sin City. And that would also piss people off. So either way you're fucked

So this movie is just for the people who liked the graphic novels or find this kind of stylized explosion of violence fun to watch, and of you dont belong in this category, then so be it.

What killed it for me was the never ending voice overs speeches. I would fancy some fan editor deleting those from the soundtracks, except for the couples of instances of vital information being given in them.

I agree with Mark. I think I gave the film 3/5 or 3.5/5. Brilliantly stylish, but that's it and it had a misoginyst tone as well.

Great movie a solid 4/5 for me. can't wait for the HD/BLU-RAY version

It's a Dimension film in America and Buena Vista in the UK I'd anticipate Blu-ray.

Well put. Now I think about it I meant to say it was misogynist in my review. I've since described it as such.

I honestly wouldn't object to the violence (although I do have a particular issue with rape) if it was being depicted in such a "cool" way. That's glamorisation at the lowest level. It's common knowledge Hollywood glamorises violence but even so this went too far.

Basically it's for Tarantino fans. I am not one.

I saw Reservoir Dogs years ago and thought it was all right. I think my girlfriend tried to show me Pulp Fiction once and I just dozed off or something lol, I remember none of it! Kill Bill just bored me and pissed me off in equal measure. His films really aren't for me, and he annoys me being on the front of DVDs 'Quentin Tarantino presents...' etc, uhhh what a dick.

It didn't strike me until my second viewing of how well made Reservoir Dogs was, they was some talent on showcase in that film. Pulp Fiction I've only seen once, but immediately liked. The twist in the Bruce Willis/Ving Rhames story was classic. Plus I got to see one my most despised stars getting turned into swiss cheese.

Now Tarantino's just a parody of himself. Too afraid to make anything but "homage compilations" because they may bomb hard if he tried anything different. Grindhouse's failure puts some holes in that boat though.

Reservoir Dogs is a classic, as you say it has some brilliant actors in it. Pulp Fiction is also decent.

Reservoir Dogs remains QT's first and best film -- and probably always will be.

Jackie Brown is excellent.

I'm not a big Tarentino fan. It seem much of his success come from the fact that mainstream audiences isnt used to seeing what he is showing them... but for people who do watch alot of different kinds of movies, it's not all that great and special as it's made out to be.

My favourite Tarentino flick is probably Jackie Brown, simply because it's a damn good movie with a good story and great performances.

Kill Bill was ok, although I didnt like the casting, nor the bullshit ending (cause Carradine didnt want to do a big fight-scene, as he's old and crap). The premise of the movie was cool though, and some scenes are definately great. I love revenge-flicks.

Dont bother with this dvd set then, the extras are absolute shit! about 10 minutes worth of good stuff, truley a shit dvd set for extras, if you hate the film you will be blown away by them extras as they suck big fat balls.

It is. It's also very underrated. QT went seriously down hill after Jackie Brown. I like Kill Bil: Vol. 1 but it's not a serious film like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown are.

Those have solid stories, with solid direction and solid acting. Kill Bill's plot by comparison is non-existent. I also liked Death Proof but boy it's not in the same league as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown.

I don't get why people get so hung up about this. If you break it down all it accounts to his mug and name on a paper cover and some two bit extras. Big deal!

If QT's name on the cover gets more rare and unheard of films released in America I'm all for it. So what if his name is on the cover. AFAIK all the DVDs he has released have been respectful/decent quality.
