BTW Slipknot indeed do suck major ass. Piece of shit nu-metal band who applied the nu-metal cliche of having a whole posse of band members. They have like 2 or 3 drummers if I recall. It's like the Wu Tang Clan:- get 10,000 rappers in a room, surely at least two of them will be good.

That dashboard idea looks very cluttered IMO. You can get similar programs for Windows and to me it's always meant clutter.

Not true it's just XP was the first to be marketed at the home market.

Business' have had rock solid NT (of which 2000 and XP are based upon) for 10 years, maybe more.

Windows 2000 (out 2 years before XP) was supposed to be XP but Microsoft decided at the last minute it was to early to release a very different OS on the home world.

When Windows XP came out they were able to finally kill off the 95 OS.

Since the days of Windows NT Windows has been very stable. Windows 2000 finally merged the stability with the user friendliness of Windows 95. Windows NT is far from user friendly.

No worries mate. All my important data is saved from one disk to the other everytime I start my PC.

I've been attacked by viruses before and never lost anything. No need for an AV software. Hell I had to format last week because of a spyware and still didn't lose anything.

If you install software from CD and it infects the data on your backup (I presume it's always plugged in) then a fat lot of good it is.

In 2003-2004 I had Norton AV. In three virus attacks, Norton died 3 times and couldn't erase the virus.

Bottom-line is:
If a spyware infects my PC -> Format, Reinstall. (120 minutes)
If a virus infects my PC -> Format, Reinstall, copy data from backup DVDs. (150 minutes)
If everything is fine -> Format and reinstall every 2 months anyway (PCs work better when they're light on programs).

iu get the impression some of you are using pretty crazy resolutions. do you change the resolution to suite your backdrop or do you really like having to squint at your icons?

1152x864 on a 19" screen for me.

I don't think that's even possible but Word documents and Excel files can get affected.

That said macro virus' aren't powerful at all.

That seems really excessive. I do so every 1-2 years, when it needs it really.

It would take me MUCH longer than 2 hours however I must use much more apps than you.

I have:

At home - 1280x1024 on a 17"
At work - 1152x864 on a 17"

Oddly 1280x1024 at work looks really small which makes no sense as they're both 17" monitors and both TFT.

Annoyingly the monitor at work doesn't really support 1152x864 and because of this it makes window fonts look really cack. I've had to set them to bold (which looks odd) to get around this.

1024x768 looks fine but then everything is huge.

It's all very much in people's heads, most people I know like 17" at 1024x768 and moan when I try to change it. The sharpness is completely gone at this resolution too.

My Mum did but I politely ignored her and she soon got used to it.

Viruses killed my last PC.

And my Mum's.

I kept telling her she needs a virus checker but as it was a work pc she said "it's up to work I don't want to touch it".

She then left the job and kept the pc, later on a virus killed all her e-mails which included all her deceased boyfriend's e-mails (RIP).

I was able to retrieve her documents but not e-mails. She now has a virus checker (ZoneAlarm Internet Security to be precise, VERY good) and I run off backups.
