The USA did very well and deserved the draw.

The Italians were lucky bastards to get two Americans sent off (for yellow card tackles) and a dubious off-side decision that got a goal from the Americans chalked off.

The Italian elbow to the face was vicious and the ref was right to go for a straight red. Fifa should fine that thug of a player.

Agree, the elbow to Brian McBride was disgusting, no question that was a straight red.
As for the 2 sendings off for the US team, one guy (Eddie Pope I think) was already on a yellow card and 2 yellows = 1 red card. Wierd I know... The 1st US guy got sent off for 2 footed lunge (IIRC), not sure if it warranted a red.
The game against Ghana will be interesting.. :)

Actually they did show/it report it after, the fact it wasnt shown on the original broadcast was more the fault of the German feed and not the BBC/ITV.

ITV's coverage pisses me off, of course I love England, but in the build up to most of the matches, even Italy v US, they spend 20 bloody minutes talking about England  The BBC are much better.
The "You do the football, we'll do the beer" ads do make me laugh

Alas I missed that game. Might catch the highlights.

Just watched the socceroos play for the first time - they are surprisingly good. Unlucky to lose to Brazil but I've a feeling that they'll come second....

Pathetic french team.
Should've been an easy win, especially after a weak first period for the koreans.

It's at times like these that I wish I was South Korean. If ONLY they got their final free kick - man that would've been ecstacy.

The Koreans' voices outnumbered the French by a huge margin. They brought a small army and the national orchestra. The costumes and crazy props - love it. :D

One French nutter took in his chicken (who looked clearly distressed). Score....

Supposedly Togo may or may not play their final match? Something to do with wanting more money.

Yeah, Togo has been the laughing stock all tournament so far, with their coach leaving, them getting a new coach, old coach coming back, etc etc.

Anyway, I cant for the life of me figure out why Japan isn't playing Shinji Ono. A brilliant player, probably the best they have. Must be either something personal or he's injured, but he's miles better then Nakata so wtf is going on there?

France was awfull again. The whole team looks like one big giant mess. South Korea wasnt all that good either, but at least they fought for it.

They're too old, that's the problem.
The only fresh player is Ribéry (and he's tired because he had a difficult season).

Not only that, but they all just seem unhappy and like they dont even wanna be there... Seems like the group hate eachother's guts or something. Plus I've always felt Zidane was a bit overhyped, but at the moment he's just way past it... he shouldnt even be playing anymore. i'm sure he can still have moments of brilliance etc, but he seems like a crouchy old man who is a bad influence on the atmosphere in the group...

Things looked a little ropey in the first half though. The second was much better, from Spain's point of view, obviously :)

Most eyes will be on the Sweden - England game (much) later today. Looking forward to it.

It's rather disgraceful how poor the coverage of the World Cup is here in Carolina. :( We tied with Italy, yet nobody really seems to care. Come on! I live in the area that made Mia Hamm a household name! Yet I can't drive half a mile from here without passing a car that has Carolina Hurricanes flags flapping in the wind. That's ice hockey, btw. Yes, it's 90 degrees outdoors, and I live in a state where it hardly snows in the winter, if at all, yet we just won the Stanley Cup.

hey,

yea, congrats to Carolina. Was glad to see two "unusual" teams fight for the cup, biggest surprise being the Oilers of course. Think many thought Hurricanes had what it took yet they dropped that 3-1 lead in the finals.

Anyway, my tip for Sweden-England:

0-2.

We just don't have it and whatever we get, we probably deserve...even if it's the other way round.

Fuck fuck FUCK!
OK, we got the result we needed but we were sooo close to beating Sweden! I thought England had done it with Stevie G's late goal. ARGGHH!
In the 1st half England were very good IMO, so much better than the first 2 games. Rooney wasn't at his best obviously but was OK certainly and fairly lively. Joe Cole was good too.
Bad luck Owen got hurt.
In the 2nd England were (mostly) crap, defensive blunders leading to both goals :(

Set pieces is something we (England) have to work on. I guess it sums up the phrase "Its not over till its over" ;) Sweden were so much better in the 2nd half than the first I felt.
As I said Gerrard/Cole were good but Lampard was just a hit and hope merchant.
Next game, Sven must unleash Walcott and play him with Rooney. If he wasnt going to play him, WTF is the point of taking him? :?
I wish Owen a speedy recovery but it looks like hes out of the tournament.
