Well done Mr. Obvious!
Thanks Salty. I imagine these films will work well remixed to 5.1 and will be a fair remix, that is not really OTT and have gun fights making use of 5.1. They're likely again to be Stereo in a 5.1 guise, so wouldn't bother me at all.
I rechecked my Optimum BD and here's what I found: ALL four audio options (two for each cut) are screwed up. THREE of them switch the speakers (as has been discussed) whilst the other is a mono downmix. The original stereo version is unrepresented.
To be sure I checked my Korean DVD (which I haven't yet traded...) and the 5.1 track on the VL uses the correct speakers. Therefore the fault is specific to Optimum. I would presume that the Sony mixes (they only offer DTS-HD 5.1) are correct. Does anyone have this release to confirm?
I forgot to check the 2.0 track on the TC from my Korean disc. I'll do that and let you know... but in short avoid the Optimum.
Are you saying you're not getting the correct mix during the hallway scene in all the audio tracks Mark? If so it sounds like it could be your sound system that is at fault or my Leon check disc is different to the final released discs (very unlikely) as there's definitely nothing wrong with the mix on my end.

Yeah, all four audio tracks are incorrect when I play them. Three switch speakers and one is a mono downmix. I'll recheck them thru my TV speakers (which I know are correct). It's possible I have the system wired up wrong but I'd like to think I'd have noticed it by now. If not - I'm an eejit.
OK. It's confession time. I tried the disc thru the TV speakers and three tracks with "wrong speakers" were fine. So I rewired the receiver and - yes, you guessed - the same tracks were fine. It looks as though I've had the speakers wrongly wired. It was nothing to do with the disc. The disc is fine (although the PCM on the TC is still mono). The mistake was entirely Markgway's. I am in fact an utter feckin eejit. Shingster and co feel free to laugh at the eejit.
Ha ha. Maybe we should start calling you Bradavon? (yes I am taking the piss out of myself too). After all this it's fine, save for the other audio Optimum cock up.So still one to avoid and still fine on the German BD (see prior pages).
I've made similary stupid mistakes regarding setting up the various sound systems I've had over the years, I remember when I got my current amp and I wired it all up handy-dandy then started the test tones to calibrate the audio when I realised that I was only recieving audio through my left rear speaker! Cue about two hours of faffing about, wiring, rewiring, checking/rechecking amp settings and re-reading the manual, searching online for similar fault etc, when I finally realise that the "fault" was in fact the audio coming out of my headphones that were on my PC desk a couple of feet below my rear-left speaker!
I had my headphones permanently connect to my previous amp because you had to select headphone out to use it, whereas this new amp automatically goes into headphone mode when you connect the headphones and I'd connected the headphones automatically when setting up the amp without giving it a 2nd thought!

Bradavon II: The Sequel

I wouldn't avoid it unless you want PCM stereo on the TC. That's the only track that's screwed up. For once I'm glad I'm wrong. Saves me having to import the Sony release.

In my defence, though, I wired up the receiver as advised, using colour coding on the wires (eg. L = Red). I just assumed that if I did that correctly (which I'm sure I did) the audio would be correct. But my receiver is very old (like decades) and so perhaps the colour assignations had changed since? So red no longer equalled L but R. I can only assume it's something along those lines... I can't believe LEON was the only disc I noticed had incorrect sound. THAT'S what makes me such a muppet. Glad it's finally sorted now though (I hope).
I thought the Extended Cut (or was it Theatrical Cut) 5.1 was upmixed stereo? I forget what Shing said now. This is specifically on the Optimum. He said the 5.1 and Stereo sounded identical.

Do you mean red/white stereo RCA leads? If so, it doesn't matter which way round technically you have them, as long as it's the same at either end. You may as well match red with red and white with white though.
When I plugged my Mum's DVD Player into her Hi-fi I couldn't work out why one of the speakers made an awful noise when used. To the point we had to watch Ringu from just the one speaker (which sounded weird to say the least). After the film was over, I noticed I'd plugged the other end of the audio lead into the yellow composite video connection. Doh!
