Anyway, I just watched the korean movie Welcome to Dongmalgol

GREAT movie, with fantastisc performance, a nice soundtrack, a great atmosphere, pretty good yet predictable story, and it looks damn good as well.

In short: it's the north vs south korean war. Casualties (soldiers) of both sides end up together in a peacefull village with really sweet loving people. First there is mistrust, but obviously, slowly, they get to know eachtother better.

One of my favourite movies ever. 4.5/5

That's a pretty high score considering my old Xbox drive was acting up, which kinda took me out of the movie for about half an hour, when I had to use a laser-cleaner and all that crap...

Just watched the UK Blu Ray of Shinjuku Incident.

It's a hard movie to recommend as the story has been done before, the characters seen before and well, it's a Jackie Chan movie. Nothing really surprising here although the violence is taken a few notches up from the norm. I did find the whole experience entertaining and I cared for the story and the people in it despite it really only going one of a couple ways. However I can say it contains one of the best scenes in Jackies career


4/5 for entertainment.


The Blu is loaded with extras. The best are an average 'Making of'. A brilliant 16 minutes of on set footage of all the main action scenes in the film being set up and filmed, and a lengthy interview with Jackie (half of which is just him describing the plot).

I use a film projector to watch mine. What you getting at?

The Xbox has good videoquality, and more importantlty, it's modded and thus region-free, so I could watch the R3 DVD of Dongmalgol.

A damn shame the laser is crap, the whole thing makes too much noise, and you can't fast forward.

You cannot fast-forward? WTF! That's bonkers. The Xbox and PS2 are rubbish DVD Players. You'll get better performance/picture quality with a £20-30 DVD Player, such as Toshiba's range. The PS3 is a great BD Player though, not sure about the Xbox 360 for DVDs.

Do you watch it with a 10" black and white portable TV? Oh wait, you think Avant is a modern web browser. Enough said .

I have a 20-30 bucks region-free DVD-player, and the videoquality is NOT as good as that of the Xbox. I think I even had a Toshiba one, before I had my current one (and that player was SHITE).

Haven't used the 360 for DVD-playback. PS3 is excellent though. Great quality, and pretty silent. Not region-free though,so that's why I had to use the old Xbox.

I never called Avant a 'modern' browser. I said it's a GREAT browser, which has pretty much everything you could ask for, right out of the box. Please keep up.

I am still on the look-out for for a region-free BluRay player which is also regionfree when it comes to DVD, and is good at upscaling, but nu such luck just yet, I guess.

PS3 is region free on games but not dvds or movies. If there was a way to unlock it it would have been cracked by now. However, a hacker recently hacked into the PS3 so who knows if this will lead to future discoveries of region code hacking or backwards compatibility(doubtful as current gen needs the Emotion Engine chip to run stable) among other things.

Not being able to fast forward is a serious hinderance. Why not watch on your pc?

Because the idea was to watch it with my girlfriend, so watched it from my bed. PC is in the other room.
Also, I don't really like watching movies on my pc. It gets too easy to get distracted to quickly check out some sites during the movie. When I just watch it on the TV, I can keep focussed.
