I've stopped even looking at Hong Kong Blu Rays. If something good ever turns up (some hope) I'm sure it'll come to my attention. Otherwise... meh.

I have the excellent German DVD of Eastern Condors, so don't need any bullshit remixed upscales.

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
Ok, so, HKL's Bullet in the Head DVD has better picture quality than Kam & Ronson's BD. Why am I not surprised?

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
I've lost track a bit. Have any HKLs made their way to Blu-ray?
That's annoying Tiger Cage 2 is an upscale. What about Tiger Cage? At least it's not letterbox (I know unheard on BD). Aren't all the DVDs letterbox?
The trouble I have with all the HK BDs is taking into account the often minimal improvement, they're so bloody expensive. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Joy Sales (or Kam & Ronson?) released the Tiger Cage movies on remastered DVD maybe 1½-2 years ago. I believe the monos were fine, too.

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
Thanks. Those look to be the ones to go for then.
Regarding these upscales. Most HK BDs seem to come from HD masters made many years ago for DVD and then eventual HD release. With this in mind, they've got HD masters. So why would they take an SD master and upscale it? I imagine it's more likely they are HD, just pretty shoddy/old HD.

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
Recieved Wheels on Meals, Eastern Condors and Once Upon a Time in China and America this morning. The first 2 are upscales, as expected, with 'Wheels' getting the advantage over 'EC' in the "quality" control dept. OAUTIC&A is genuine HD and looks really good! Sounds really good too. I skimmed through the discs and noticed that english subs on all 3 are above average. I watched about 10 mins of OUATIC&A and from what I saw, Id definitely recommend the disc!

I bet they're sourced from the HK discs.

Apparently the BD of Cowboy Bebop: The Movie has great PQ, but only 2.0 soundtracks.

Up next
Project A
Project A Part 2
Tower of Death
at least their cover arts are consistently awful
The Japanese announced their BDs today. From what I've heard they're just the same as the HK BDs, but at least the cover arts are better.

Oh well, I own superior quality dvds already, so no need to double dip

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
Except for The Big Boss and Fist of Fury (possibly), are any of the HK Blu-rays worthy upgrades? By this I mean, which would you consider replacing your DVD (whichever one it is) for the Blu-ray based on the audio and video.
Iron Monkey for example is supposed to be pretty soft but overall is better than the HKL Platinum DVD (although not by much), which I believe is otherwise the definitive release (no Mono though). I wouldn't buy the Once Upon a Time in China series on Blu-ray ever because they've been so badly DNRed but at least it looks like they've stopped that now.
p.s - Is there a list somewhere of the HK Blu-rays released so far?
