Two new combos on the way:-
The Good Shepherd
Universal Home Video has sent over some early artwork for The Good Shepherd which stars the likes of Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, and Angelina Jolie. The film has yet to be officially announced I'm afraid, although we're expecting the disc to arrive this March.
We can however confirm that the disc will include an anamorphic widescreen presentation, an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track - and around 16 minutes of deleted scenes.
Retail will be around $29.99 or thereabouts. Further details will follow shortly. We can also confirm that a HD-DVD/Combo release will be available for $39.98.

The Nutty Professor (Eddie Murphy)
April 24th:-
The Nutty Professor is presented on a 15GB/9GB HD DVD Combo disc with the film in 1080P 1.85:1 Widescreen on Side A with English and French audio (Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1) and subtitle options. Side B contains the film in standard definition with English DD5.1 and French DD2.0 audio and optional subtitles alongside the original theatrical trailer.

News of the Spanish HD-DVD of Underworld Evolution:-
Filmax Home Video have announced an approximate release date and features listing for their release of Underworld: Evolution, which is due to be released on HD DVD in Spain, sometime this April. The image below shows the cover art, and has been taken from the Spanish DVD news site ZonaDVD.com.
Underworld: Evolution HD DVD
The disc specifications are as follows:
* Video: 2.35:1 1080p High Definition
* Audio: Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 English, Spanish Castellano, Spanish Catalán, and DTS Spanish Castellano
* Subtitles: English, Spanish Castellano
Presumably, the video will be compressed using the VC-1 codec, which has become the de-facto standard for HD DVD due to the involvement of Microsoft, as well as its highly regarded picture quality.
The following Special Features are also included:
* Audio Commentary with director Len Wiseman
* Image Gallery
* Biographies/Filmographies
* Photo Gallery
* Trailer
* TV Spots
* Featurette (6 min)
* "Imágenes de rodaje" (15 min)

Some high-profile titles coming:-
The HD DVD Promotion Group has once again updated their official Release List and have added several high-profile titles from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
* E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
* Jaws
* Jurassic Park
* Meet The Fockers
* Psycho
* Scarface (1983)
* Shaun Of The Dead
* Slap Shot
* Smokin Aces
* The Big Lebowski
* The Return
* The Shining (1980)
Each of the titles is currently listed as having an undecided release date. However, a film's appearance in the Promotion Group's listing has, in the past, given HD DVD owners a reliable indicator of what to expect.
In the case of "E.T.", this June will mark the 25th anniversary of the film's release, so a DVD re-release and HD DVD release around this time could be a potential successful marketing move for Universal.

I'd bother with E.T. only if it is the original TC. I'm not interested in the newer cut with the added bad CGI and the guns replaced with walktalkies.

Is that UK or USA news Eva?

I ask as it would give an idea on whether Jaws will get the remix as well as Mono. Jaws, Scarface and The Shining are musts when I get HD.

Wasn't the Underworld: Extended Cut out by now? Comparing against the Theatrical Cut. My point that there is no Underworld 2: Extended Cut so maybe one isn't coming (or at least not until Underworld 3).

Agreed because of MPEG2 on the BD but I'd still probably opt for the American BD. It will be easier to get hold of, will probably be cheaper, will look fine for me and has the same extras.

Not that I'd rush to get either Underworld. I'll pick both up but not at full price.

Seriously, who gives a flying fuck? Underworld sucks, no alternative cut in the world could make an Underworld film suck any less.

Len is prolly too busy with Die Hard 4 anyway.

Great combo player then it seems. Your son gets a new games console and you get both HD-DVD/BD without having two standalone players. Perfect!

It seems I'll be waiting even longer as LG have royaly stuffed their Combo player up.

Dunno, you can find em on Pacific. It looked like the type of crap they show at an IMAX though.

Those are overkill IMO and a waste of cash.

I looked on the back of the case of X-Men: The Last Stand (Blu-ray), and it said the runtime is 99 minutes. That is the PAL running time (The American one says 104 minutes). Does anyone here own this? I was tempted to buy it because it should look good in HD, but no way am I getting it if it has PAL speed-up or something.

PAL/NTSC speedup doesn't exist on hd as far as i'm aware.i have the american disc.by the way it's not one of the more spectacular blu-ray discs,which surprised me.better than the sd but not greatly.

There's no video speed up but some Studio Canal HD-DVD's have speeded up audio because the French are lazy sods.
