Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
Horrible cover art.
US poster art (posted by Lucky Stars) is cooler but doesn't have Gibson's face on it so they probably wouldn't use it.
This is the original poster art but it doesn't look much like Gibson:

The sequels had a better choice of art.

Toy Story 3 - US BD November 2:
http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Toy-Story ... r-Art/7283
Comes in 2 packages - 1 with 2 BDs, and another with 2 BDs, a DVD and Digital Copy.
I hope the UK release has a 2 BD version as well.

I'm not. It's a mess. He badly needs more drama and certainly no more action. That is a shame an SE isn't coming. I bet it will at some point. The current DVD/BD has few extras.Markgway wrote:I'm happy with the film as is to be honest.
Cool. I'm happy with my R4 DVD. Hopefully it will feature a proper 5.1 remix and the Mono. The existing R1 DVD has a rubbish 5.1, not from the same remix the R4 got.
That's good to see, we're not forced to pay for the DVD and Digital Copy. I hope the UK gets the same.grim_tales wrote:Comes in 2 packages - 1 with 2 BDs, and another with 2 BDs, a DVD and Digital Copy.

Apocalypse Now Blu-ray trailer:
http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/08/13/apoca ... exclusive/
It even mentions that this will be in the proper aspect ratio
. FINALLY! I too am going to get the 3 Disc release. The documentary on DVD is about a tenner, so it seems silly to buy that now.

Like you Brad, I hope the UK gets the same choice with Toy Story
I guess the point with BD/DVD combos is they count on households having more than 1 player, sort of thing.

Fox are pretty good about supplying mono tracks so that's a good sign.
The sequels were Dolby Stereo.

The MGM SE has both Mono + DD5.1 (although it's basically stereo). Don't Fox release all MGM tiles now? Except Bond.
True but DVD prices fall so quickly, I'd rather be given the choice and buy both if I need them.grim_tales wrote:I guess the point with BD/DVD combos is they count on households having more than 1 player, sort of thing.

What it doesn't mention is that they will be special new remasters with all the human actors replaced with CGI versions.

All 6 films are being released on BD according to that article it seems. I hope it includes the originals in a good state. Non anamorphic on BD would look awful.

Btw I was referring to the original Aussie audio, as opposed to the US re-dub

There's zero chance they would only put on the old US dub.luckystars wrote:Btw I was referring to the original Aussie audio, as opposed to the US re-dub
Everyone and his dog knows Gibson's voice now.
Might make an amusing extra though.

It's safe to say Yoda will now be CGI in the Phantom Menace.gasteropod wrote:What it doesn't mention is that they will be special new remasters with all the human actors replaced with CGI versions.
There's next to no chance these are going to be included. You better get used to it now. They'd need extensive remastering, something Lucas has no interest in doing. It's also clear Lucas considers those cuts "extras" and it says the extras will all be new.grim_tales wrote:I hope it includes the originals in a good state. Non anamorphic on BD would look awful.
Whilst Lucas can get away with plonking the laserdisc masters of the original cuts on to DVD and labelling them as "extras", this wouldn't wash on BD. Lucas has never remastered the original cuts, since their laserdisc days. He's sure as hell not going to do it now. The Special Editions are his Director's Cut (which version of the Special Edition, is anyone's guess) and what we're just going to have to get used to. He's one stubborn guy. Those DVDs are the best they're ever going to look.
"Lucas said these newly released scenes would be kept separate from the film itself."
That's good to hear at least. Here is the deleted scene in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdJ0E7HbTKc
I'm most annoyed this appears to be a single release of all 6 movies. Tough if you dislike any of the movies (like me).

Yeah but Lucas did say the original movies would never be made available after the (pre Special Edition) 1995 VHS's came out...then they came out in 2006 on DVD as extras...

That isn't even possible on BD. The frame is 1920x1080 no matter what the aspect ratio of the film is. Anamorphic transfers don't exist on BD like they did with DVD. There just isn't any need for them.grim_tales wrote:Non anamorphic on BD would look awful.
