The Video Game Thread - what are you playing?

Animal Crossing is a lot of fun, but it depends on how much time you can devote to it. When it comes out on the Wii and they figure in a multiplayer aspect where you can go to the town of a friend and mess about, that should bring in a lot more players.
I have it on the GameCube and one nifty little thing you could do was connect up a GBA, which unlocked another island. There was only one person on this island, but it had items exclusive to the island. You could also then play the game on the GBA with no extra game to buy; you just had to make sure you got back to the main island before the battery died otherwise you'd lose all your newly found items!

My brother has (and loves) Ninja Gaiden. He definitely had the original but now has the Black edition as well. To be honest, it seems far too close to Onimusha for my liking, but if fast-paced death is your thing, it's not bad at all.

Ninja Gaiden is great indeed. It's hard at times, but you do seem to get further and further, so you keep trying. Level design is great, controls are pretty good. Camera is a bit iffy at times, but that is to be expected from such a hectic game.

About Animal Crossing: I dont have a GBA and I never will have one, so I cant do that...

It's weird, I played both GTA3 and Vice City: loved both games, and finished them both... but I've had GTA SA since Xmas or something, but still it hasnt really 'clicked' with me. I just dont find it all that interesting. I can tell it's 'better' then the other ones, yet still I'm not interested enough to play it...
PES5 is the best sportsgame EVER

(well... untill PES6 comes out I guess...)

Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training. Not really a game, in the traditional sense, which is probably why it's doing incredible business. The easiest parallel is to that of a puzzle book. You have to answer quick-fire questions, by either speaking into the microphone (which is surprisingly accurate, provided you're in a quiet room) or by using the stylus to scribble in your answers (again, the handwriting recognition is very good, although it sometimes doesn't like how I do my '4's.

I came across a demo-pod in the toystore last weekend, and this brain game was on. did the quick age-IQ etst or whatever it's called, and after the little tests it said I have a 20 year old brain, and the doctor said I should be ashamed if I was older then 20...

...so I was...

I felt bad and thought:' where has all my IQ gone?' I've been depressed all week, losing weight, my hair is falling out and going grey, my skin is showing signs of aging, and the spark in my eyes has gone... -sniff-
If I would have been a japanese teenage boy, I probably would have commited harakiri after the professor's harsh words...

Yet, now I'm reading a review about the game ( http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/ds/brain_age ) and it says that in the game, a brain of 20 years is the ideal brain.

So can I now sue the professor for emotional distress, cause I was really worried for my brain there, for a couple of minutes...

Sorry, can't resist, buuuut... we used to have this phrase in our English class back in school, which we repeated at the beginning of each lesson:

There is NO "would" in the beginning of an if-clause.

Hmm... no you may not!

...ow... but I see you already have... hm ok then...

Wouldnt it then have been:
- If I had been a Japanese boy...
or
- If I were a Japanese boy...

Perhaps multiple options are correct...or maybe OFFICIALLY only 1 of those is 100 correct, but in everyday communication, people use all these different combinations/wordings!?

Ah well... i'll be back in my other room watching Spain

yeah, often associated with traditional suicide, stabbing yourself with a big knife in the gut. In ancient times they didnt stab themselfs, but slit their stomach I believe.

Playing Gunstar Future Heroes (GBA) on my DS Lite now - pretty sweet game

Great fun old-school shooter/side scroller.

Playing "Project Rub" now - quite fun but often REALLY, really annoying - I just completed that annoying Parachute game (where you key in numbers on a pad in order to save the rabbits jumping from a plane), got 40 points or whatever, but the game didnt save when I shut it down. :x
I havent got the hang of "blowing" into the mic yet - AARGHH!

Bruce Lee: Return of the Legend sucks - it reminds me of those 80's NES games like Kung Fu or something - just very generic.

Oh well, only cost me 49p....

The sequel to Project Rub is called Rub Rabbits. I wish they'd kept the Japanese title though: Where Do Babies Come From?

I got the hang of the Candle game (where you blow out a candle) so I just kept repeating that until I could advance. The challange isnt that high though since you can just repeat the same mini game until you get 100 points.
LOL at the Japanese title.

I was thinking of buying some screen protectors for the Lite as already the screens have a few prints on them, can you only use the official Nintendo/Hori ones? (The manual keeps telling me I have to use official products and not third party ones).
Would a monitor/TV screen anti-screen anti static wipe be OK to use on them?

Well, I got New Super Mario Bros. last week and lots of fun it is too. The attention to detail is great, from the graphics and sound, to little in-jokes, to even the way you get Mario saying bye-bye when close the lid of the DS and put it into sleep mode

But, above all, it's the gameplay that keeps you coming back. There's the game proper, but much like Super Mario DS, there are lots of mini-games. A fair few on the new game are the same as on the old game, but it doesn't stop 'em being fun. So if you get sick of platforming, there's lots more to prat about with

I also got Bomberman and Super Monkey Ball: Touch And Roll. Everyone knows Bomberman, and everyone also knows that it's much more fun in multi-player than in single, so I'd have reservations recommending it on purely a single-player basis. SMB is good fun too; the same simian fun you've had if you've played the game on any other format.

My brother has just come back home with Electroplankton which isn't so much a game, as a noise maker or something

It's basically a means to create music using the DS. Happened pratted about with it at all yet (he's still on it) but looks like fun.

I'm playing through Ninja Gaiden Black on the XBox at the moment & it is so damn hard! I'm only up to the 6th chapter of 16 in total. I'm fighting the boss which is this huge skeleton creature that keeps swinging its tail at me & biting me.

This game is so unbelievably hard but also so addictive!

My brother really rates the game. I like ninjas, and I like big monsters, but the game mechanic looks very 'meh' to me; as though it's been done before with Onimusha etc.

And IronMonkey, get back to making more animated GIFs, you!
