Didn't do anything for me.
I find Chrostopher Nolan films clever but detatched.
Interesting to watch but they illicit no emotion.

It did for me, I found it tragic (even more so in the chronological version).

Nolan's films don't do much for me to be honest, though i need to revisit Insomnia & i'll be watching Inception next week.I have the recent uk release of Memento, picked it up in cex recently.last time i watched it i found it interesting but cold but that must've been 5 years ago. As for his other Films the 2 Batman's were ok but Prestige was boring.

Haven't seen The Prestige or Inception.

The original Insomnia is on Sky Arts 2 this week. Can't say the remake made me desperate to check it out. How does it compare?

Am I likely to enjoy the original if underwhelmed by the remake?

I remember being put off at the time by how gloomy it looked.

Only reason I watched the remake was because of the critical raves - and Pacino.

The original is better than the remake, but IIRC the remake is pretty faithful.

When are Shrek 1 and 2 due on BD? I noticed something called "Shrek (Remastered)" on DVD which came out in November which has new extras but not a BD.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shrek-Remastere ... 074&sr=1-1

Doesnt seem to be available on BD yet

I doubt it. The Insomnia remake is pretty faithful, has a similar look and both are well made. It's like Open Your Eyes vs. Vanilla Sky. The original edges it but both are well made.

Will you be buying the Star Wars saga on Blu Ray?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PM ... d_asin_lnk
You can get Eps 1-6, 4-6 or 1-3, I bet there isnt the OT in the set though. At least according to Lucas, no masters exist which are good enough for BD which is bollocks imo but there you are.

No. I'm not a Star Wars fan.

If the set was dirt cheap and had the original cuts I'd think about an off-the-cuff purchase......... but otherwise NOPE.

Considering Vanilla Sky completely changed the tone of the story I'd say brad couldn't have chosen a worse example.

The Solaris remake is very strange in mood. The original calm intriguing and methodical - which I believe they tried to match, unfortunately the remake is sorrowful and glum like a rainy day. So not exaclty the same!

I've only seen about 30-40 minutes of Solaris. I always seem to fall asleep after I'm done masturbating to Clooney....

Open your Eyes was pretty good. I thought Vanilla Sky was OK but not great, although TBH that's probably also partly to blame on the poor casting. Cruise pretty much brings down every movie he's in.

Hell Yes. It's the Original Trilogy Blu-ray for me. I cannot wait to see them in HD. This is probably the most important box set for me, higher than Alien and much higher than Indiana Jones/Back to the Future (neither I've ever had much interest in owning).

I'm not bothered I won't be able to pick up the extra 3 discs of extras. I'm sure the original trilogy discs will have enough extras for me.

Obviously the original cuts won't be included. It "would have" been mentioned if they were. I'm sure Lucas is right no masters exist, he'd have to create them and obviously doesn't want to. If masters did exist they'd have been used for the DVD releases, instead of re-using the laserdisc transfers.

I'm not really bothered. Sure some things in the 2004 cuts (the cuts I'm guessing will be used) annoy me, especially like Hayden Christian appearing at the end of ROTJ but overall I'm happy with any cut. The tone and feel of the movies aren't lost in the 1997/2004 cuts.

I meant how both are well made. Vanilla Sky isn't a poorly made remake, like most are.

I disagree the tone is completely changed though. It's plenty dark in places and has a similar feel of dread to it. The tone is probably a bit lighter "overall" though. It does have those rather cool scenes that look like album covers too.

Both are worth watching, especially as one rather good scene never made it to Vanilla Sky.
