I may have posted this before in some thread, but, anyway.

I apologize for small pictures. I did this comparison in 2006 and I don't have bigger screencaps at hand now.

So, what's this about? In late 2006 I was sitting home, watching Lost in Translation on TV, and noticed something very familiar in the scene where Scarlett Johanson travels from Tokyo to Kyoto by Shinkansen. I went to check my camera for the photos I had taken in Japan earlier that year.

Here's a screencap from Lost in Translation from a scene that only lasts some seconds
Image

Here's a random photo I took from a Shinkansen moving about 250 km/h...

Let's take a closer look and crop my photo a little bit for clarity's sake

Just think, you were probably sitting right next to her (or the cameraman) at the time and was too busy taking photos of the bleedin' scenery to notice! :D

My friend in Sapporo just recently acted as fake priest for a Japanese couple (of their request. Not as a swindler). Future business for me???

In case you didn't know, the live action Saikano (She, The Ultimate Weapon) was shot partly in Otaru.

This is the high school in the film... (film)

Aki Maeda (angel) and that guy whose name I forgot (I usually refer to him as "Shaolin Wooden Man" due to his acting flexibility) have a romantic date at Mt. Asahi View Point. (film)

It's gone through slight renovation since, but looks pretty much the same still (reality)

I've got a ton of summer photos from this place too, but they're all too embarrasing to publish  :D

But a nice tip: there's a metal "cage" (sorry, missing the correct word) protecting the lights at the ceiling. You can fit a small digital camera in there, and use the timer function to get excellent high angle photos with a nice background.

(this was the test photo without anyone in it, lol)

Also, the road up there is very nice. It takes about 15 minute by walk.

Sorry, I'm starting to sound like average JP dorama...

That's a comedy sketch, right? I mean, we're not supposed to believe it's for real - are we?

She's ok. Most of my friends are from the Sapporo area, which wasn't badly affected. They could feel the earthquake, but there was no notable damage. One friend from Tokyo was giving live coverage on Friday, telling me he can see buildings on fire. He took the train back home at 3:30 am. Normally the public transport commits harakiri at midnight, but that day it was only at 3:30 when it started operating.

Aside the obvious nuclear risk, the big problem now is that not only the disaster areas, but also Tokyo is running short on food, gasoline, and energy. The shops are empty, there's power black outs, the traffic is jammed... people are starting to panic.
