Amelie USA BD review: http://www.dvdactive.com/reviews/dvd/amlie2.html

The Aussie BD is already excellent but this just tops it.

Warner have released the UK BD of the recent Ironclad in a cropped 1:78:1 ratio. The USA Warner disc out next week is confirmed as 2:35:1. Hope this isn't the start of a trend for Warner uk.

The Adventures of Tintin (Blu Ray):

I guess the content will be the same as the 2004 DVD box, it would be neat to have the option to check it out in French with English subs though.

Bit pricey at the moment though :o

Has anyone found the Original Trilogy Stars Blu-ray Box Set for under £33.69? -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Origi ... B003AQCAZE

If not, are there any decent vouchers doing the rounds lately? It's out next month. I'm hoping to get it for £25 or less.

According to the Dressed to Kill press release no original mono audio is present

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/31401 ... ll-blu-ray :( The special features look the same as the DVD too.
I'll still get it though.

I'm still holding on to hope that the specs have skipped over the mono track... otherwise no sale and I keep my DVD.

Same here. I'd actually forgotten the DVD had the mono track, to drop it from the BD (if its true) seems bizarre.

Fox don't usually drop original audio. It could just be a specs listing oversight.

Why do you people have a hard-on for mono?

It's simply a quality related issue. The mono tracks usually sound much better than the remixes, plus we like to hear the film in its original form. Kinda sucks when you're watching a 1960's movie and the remix audio is filled with new sound effects that didn't even exist in the 1960's. So it's basically the same reason as why people don't like it when a B&W movie is colorized, or CGI effects are added to an old sci-fi movie.

You make it sound like that's the norm, when the opposite is closer to the truth.

Personally I find that much more jarring.

I'm not a big fan of mono as a sound stage. It doesn't bring you into the film, the way stereo does (or multi-channel, if the film was made that way).

Perfect for me would be the use of stereo remixes for mono movies. This isn't in vogue, so 5.1 or 7.1 gets created.

I've no problem with 5.1 remixes when they've basically stereo (see most Hollywood labels), so they don't bother me. The remix may have 6 channels but they're barely used (so why bother?) but I fucking hate remixes that go all out to fill the room with noise (see Anchor Bay and most Hong Kong studios). Those I'd much, much prefer the mono.

Anchor Bay thankfully at least (almost) always also include the original audio too. Their Withnail and I is a good example of how bad remixes can be. The 5.1 remix is fucking atrocious (re-used for the BD but turned into DTS-HD MA). It's so loud and in your face, I managed 10 minutes before I had to change to the original stereo remix. In scene it's pissing down with rain and they've set the rain volume so high, you cannot hear them speak properly.

The original Taxi Driver DVD had perfect audio. In the sense they weren't able to create a 5.1 remix from the elements available, so created a stereo remix. This enhanced the film without going all out and over the top. The Special Edition does have a 5.1 remix and whilst it certainly could be worse it's also over the top. Annoyingly the already created stereo remix isn't included (but does have much better picture quality, so you cannot win) and the mono track has never been included on DVD.

Terminator is an interesting example. I love the remix (which has added foley), it's an action film not a talky movie. Lots of people hate it though. The film lends itself well to surround. This is the exception rather than the rule however.

It's not so much multi-channel remixes I hate but remixes that are way OTT. I don't mind added foley so much, I can rarely spot it anyway.

Ultimately however, they've got suitable soundtracks ready to go (purists are happy with DD1.0, it doesn't have to be lossless) and space is never an issue. In other words, they've got a duty to always include them. It takes no extra effort and will likely ensure more sales. This is why I don't get why they don't just included it as standard.

Most don't care but enough do to warrant always including it.

Manhunter "MGM Original Theatrical Cut" BD on 13/09/11:

http://www.amazon.com/Manhunter-Blu-ray ... B005CM1ICK

I imagine this is the same disc that's been only available in a box set (with Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter) since 2009. Check reviews for that if you want to what it's like. Reviews say the box set version is the original theatrical cut.

Optimum are also releasing this on the 26th of September but they've sourced their cuts from Anchor Bay for all previous DVDs. I suspect they'll be releasing the workprint (incorrectly labelled as theatrical) and director's cuts again. Basically you want the DVD or BD put out by MGM to get the right cut (available on USA or Japanese DVDs).

Hours have passed and I'm still.... :rage: :rage: :rage:

Why the fuck would those MGM arseholes DROP the original mono from the DVD? Otherwise the BD is a copy of their 2001 Sp. Ed (with exact same extras).

I know a lot of fans hated the DVD's 5.1 remix so hopefully there will be an outcry about this and Americans will be sending mails of complaint to MGM.

I'm gutted... but sooo glad I didn't sell my DVD.
I wouldn't take this piece of shit BD for free.

both of you enjyoy the dressed to kill dvd.personally i will watch this film so infrequently it can be in swahili 7.1 for all i care. i'm 47 years of age and the thought of getting older and not watching a film because there's no original mono baffles me. there's a life out there, and you all need to live it because it won't come round again.

Obviously it's not IMPORTANT. But you can say that about most things. Doesn't mean it's not worth venting about on a MOVIE FORUM. I was really looking forward to owning this on BD.

I wonder if Criterion are looking for a follow-up to Blow Out...?

Apologies for my post which was very harsh...in my defence i was rather drunk yesterday....my stance is the same though, really can't get worked up over mono and the lack of it would not stop me buying a disc.
