I used to own the old single-disc release of The Terminator and it was very disappointing. The picture quality is better on the Special Edition versions on R1 & R2.

As for the sound, as far as I can remember, there wasn't much difference between the single-disc release and the R1 special edition mono-wise. Its a long time since I sold on the original release though...

It's non-anamorphic so as you say yourself will look shit when blown up.

Non-anamorphic = a BIG no no in my book.

Terminator HD Blu-ray is on the cards. It's bound to look ace but for those who hate it it only contains a DD+ 5.1 Remix.
Markgway wrote:Don't care about DTS. How come the R3 SE has mono but not the R2?
It seems to go back to the European market being thought of as loving Remixes and particulary DTS ones but the Korean market (I believe it's a Korean DVD at source) insisting on the Original Mono.

Me neither. Here are some but all are out of stock so would require an e-mail asking:

http://www.koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=6379
http://www.koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=27201
http://www.dvdfromkorea.com/shop/p_detail.asp?idx=916

It's the Korean version you want so check out your usual Korean DVD sources. The HK DVD looks to only have DD5.1 -

You may have left it to late Mark and have to plump for the UK R2 UE (next to Mono the best).

I'd ask Eva first where he sourced his R3 but you could be in luck with the R1 which looks like otherwise it's been replaced with a 1 disc release:

*1 Disc (not sure if it's the original or SE): http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=113865
* 2 Disc SE: http://www.dvdasian.com/cgi-bin/dvdasian/11987.html
* 2 Disc SE: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005N5S5

It looks to be dirt cheap and the 2 Disc SE from Amazon. It even has some neat pictures of the contents too.

Thanks for doing the checking...

All those links show the 1-disc sleeve which makes me wary.

The Amazon one shows the rear cover art showing it's the 2 Disc SE (but actually on 1 disc of course) or did you mean R3?

No worries btw.

Oh, right. I was thinking the R1 SE was two discs, when it's two sides. But doesn't the front of the SE actually say Special Edition and have a different cover to the barebones? Amazon seem to show both covers? Confusing.

Sorry I did list it as 2 discs didn't I. No the R1 is a DVD-18 or is it DVD-10, probably DVD-14.

I'd definitely say it says "Special Edition". I would ignore the first photo as it's not part of the remainder 3 which show it's the proper SE. The third pick does say DVD-18 but I bet it's DVD-14. I don't remember there being enough extras to fill a dual layer side.

AFAIK no the R1 cover is the same, just the tag.

R1 UE Details and covers are up.
I like the cover art, 007-ish but I dont like them just chucking random films in the set so I have to buy 5 films to get 1 I want :(.

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/ ... ions2.html

I'd rather have the R2's.

No mention of audio specs.

And I'm not buying twenty films to get the half dozen I actually want.

That and whether the captions are player-generated or the original theatrical ones.

"The flims are all presented fully remastered in anamorphic widescreen and with new DTS 5.1 Surround audio mixes. These Region 1 sets also include the original mono/stereo tracks."

Yes! That's more like it. R1's for the win!

That's great news.

Collection 1:
Goldfinger, The Man With The Golden Gun, Diamonds Are Forever, The Living Daylights and The World Is Not Enough.

That's 3/5 I want.

Collection 2:
Thunderball, A Vew To A Kill, The Spy Who Loved Me, License To Kill and Die Another Day.

Only 1/5 because I've already bought the R2 LTK and it's dandy.

Collection 3:
Goldeneye, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, From Russia With Love and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

2/5 this time - though if they "fix" the image problems on Goldeneye...

Collection 4:
Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, Octopussy, Tomorrow Never Dies and Moonraker.

3/5 again. Though I need to rewatch YOLT to see if it's a keeper. I suppose I wouldn't mind getting a replacement TND, as they are going to be using the original captions.

Glad we get the original mono an stereo tracks. Plus the original captions is great. Why were they left out of the R2s? Is it because they needed other audio and subs for all the other languages?

Nah, it's because they couldn't be arsed doing it proper.

The UK always gets shafted when it comes to mono tracks.

Hey Guys

Check out these Bond box sets, all links are the cheapest I can find them (delivered to the UK). Most are already out:

* James Bond Ultimate Sean Connery Collection: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684558
* James Bond Ultimate Roger Moore Collection: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684559
* James Bond Ultimate Pierce Brosnan Collection: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684560
* There is no Dalton box set (there should be!).

* James Bond Ultimate Volume 1: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684552
* James Bond Ultimate Volume 2: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684553
* James Bond Ultimate Volume 3: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684554
* James Bond Ultimate Volume 4: http://www.choicesuk.com/Product.aspx/!684555

* James Bond Ultimate Golden Triple Pack (Goldfinger / The Man With The Golden Gun / Goldeneye): http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_11 ... ode=609109
* James Bond Ultimate Red Triple Pack (Dr No / Live and Let Die / Tomorrow Never Dies): http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_11 ... ode=609107

The Searn Connery, Roger More and Pierce Brosnan box sets looks particulary nice. The price of the discs work out roughly the same.

Hmm I'm tempted in the Connery one despite just literaly ordering: FRWL, GF & YOLT. What the Red titles have in common I've no idea???

Japanese UEs with Mono:

FYI guys the Bond UE's were released in Japan on the 22/11/2006 but include English Mono/Stereo. They've been released individually too, so no mucking about with box sets.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grim has correctly pointed out the Choices UK listings do imply the Connery, Moore and Brosnan box sets are only single disc releases but as confirmed by checking out Play and Benson's World they mean FILMS not DISCS in the listings, and it's a mistake:

Sean Connery:

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1138567/Product.html
http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/dvd/7000000118799.asp

Roger Moore:

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1138569/Product.html
http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/dvd/7000000118800.asp

Pierce Brosnan:

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1138574/Product.html
http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/dvd/7000000118806.asp

p.s - The same applies to the 2 Triple Packs, wrongly listed at CD WOW.

Single film Bond UE R1's have been announced. Don't jump for joy they've cocked it right up:

Fox Home Entertainment and MGM Home Entertainment have announced the first wave of Region 1 Bond “Singles” with six titles due on 6th February 2007. Priced at $14.98 SRP each are: For Your Eyes Only, Goldeneye, Goldfinger, License to Kill, The Spy Who Loved Me and Thunderball.

These releases follow the gift set collections released in November and December, allowing fans to pick up the films they want for their collections. They are “Singles” in more than just individual availability though, offering only the remastered main feature as single-disc releases (extras TBC).
