Ebay is absolute shite for selling dvds these days what with free postage/listing fees/paypal fees/etc.

Change the category to "Other Format" and then type "DVD". Sorted!

The listing fees/paypal charges are annoying but eBay is international, many of mine go abroad. I always try eBay first, then Play trade and now your new selling links next. Also of course you can sell pretty much everything on eBay. I don't just sell DVDs.

Yup it is a risk, I only use it (at the moment) for forums and friends.

I would never risk many places, mind you Paypal cover is hilarious they wiggle their way out of anything, never paid up yet for me tried to use them 3 times I think. Other times I was a few days out of the cover period DOH! at least when it is my fault its better.

i'm selling a boxful of unsellable discs to filmvault for £80.just waiting for a collection date.

I've had to do it about 3 times and PayPal have always paid up. One other time I was also out of their limit, so they couldn't give me my money back but they did send the seller a few snotty e-mails and he ended up refunding me. My Mum's also got her money back too.

What sort of titles are they? some really old ones? any new? etc.. and how many?

looking to offload a few hundred of mine in one go, as frankly I have towers of dvds from floor to ceiling and it just keeps on growing, even when I am selling plenty, they breed!

Grim you do know the UK is having massive Postal Strikes dont you? the amount of post that will be delayed is massive, and lost even more.

That's the thing, just becuase it is not your area does not mean it will no effect you post can be sent well out of an area to other places affected by the strikes, you can send a letter locally, does not mean it goes a local route.

It is a pretty wide strike as well, as frankly all of them will be on strike soon as they think they are about to all be sacked and took over by new machines haha, so they have no option but to strike (again!).

One of the new machines can do the work of 500 people, I see progress will lose a few jobs icon_suspect

Yup that is what I am a bit peed off over, I have tickets in the post, for 2 weeks now! if they are on them mountains of un-delivrable mail I am stuffed.

* How come you use Play trade over Amazon Market Place?
* Would you choose Play Trade over "Filmvault" and "Musicmagpie" in the first instance?
* Which do you think is better "Filmvault" and "Musicmagpie"?
* How are things going with "Filmvault" and "Musicmagpie" or whichever you went with?

I ask as I have lots of DVDs on eBay which aren't selling (about half my listings, very oddly). So want to try elsewhere. Thanks.

i've never used Amazon Marketplace-i have had good success with Playtrade so have stuck with them.

Filmvault if you have a shitload to shift,Musicmagpie for smaller,hard to sell individual discs.

Well filmvault arranged collection between 12-5pm on Monday,they actually turned up at 11am...think they check the condition of the discs then send you a cheque.Musicmagpie sent me freepost labels the other day to send stuff but i had changed my mind and sold to filmvault.

Of course Play trade only lets you sell UK or USA discs too. Amazon looks even more expensive than eBay, this is especially important given how long the DVDs I'm selling go for. Amazon charge:

GBP 0.86 per item completion fee
Closing fee of 17.25% of the sales price
0.16p Variable Closing Postage Fee - WTF! Amazon even take a cut of your "postage" costs.

That's LOADS! I think I'll give Play a go and for non-USA/UK discs either "Filmvault" or "Musicmagpie". Thanks again.

I'm looking at Play Trade and as an example, if I list "Thomas Crown Affair (1999)" for £2.00 (other sellers have it for £2.18) and Free Postage (man I hate Free Postage). All I'll get is 40p -

£2.00 listing
£1.30 after Play.com 10% + 50p fee
90p postage cost
Leaves 40p

That's barely worth it. I'm happy to make £1, given that I plan to sell loads but 40p it's not worth it. I'll have to list all "bog standard" DVDs for £2.50 and hope they sell. I see some are selling for more but I prefer not to "have to check" every listing, to see what they're going for.

The ONLY reason a £2.50 DVD works on eBay is I can also charge Postage on top, although listing as "Other Format" could be why half my listings haven't sold.

Local markets will give you more cash than 40p surley, that is so cheap its insulting. Stand on a busy street corner and sell them yourself at £1 a go sell them, not yourself

if you have a load of massmarket,bog-standard stuff and are happy with a £1 a disc filmvault is the way to go.less hassle with posting etc...there is money on playtrade but you have to check the prices,here's the stats for one i sold in June (cost me a £1 in poundland)
