The thing is its not hard to stop, just say no, the end.
I dont care for addictions, all you have to do is not buy any and thats it.
Addiction is the persons fault and if they didnt start in the 1st place they wouldnt need to stop, people who start in todays society have no balls and need to grow up as really its pathetic, read the sodding box SMOKING KILLS, how sad and ignorant must someone be to smoke if it says that?
If I was adicted to anything, anything at all and I knew it would kill me I would stop, there is nothing that can make me change my mind on that, others need to get there lives together and just stop, hopefully soon before they die or kill others around them.
I know countless people who have stopped, and most said it was not very hard, so people are just addicted to the thing in there hands, the action of smoking and the cool look, not the actual fag, grow a spine I say or loose it when you get some serious health problems.
Its at the moment your choice, but hopefully the government will grow balls and make it illegal! like it should be and everyone has to agree it should be illegal if its killing millions, if not your a dick.

I know smoke will keep travelling in a confined space - maybe set a seperate room aside? I don't know.Markgway wrote:You can't stop smoke from travelling in a confined place... THAT was Brass Monkey's point. lol Like pool piss it floats...grim_tales wrote:You could have a smoking area but it would have to be seperate from the non-smoking area so the smoke wouldnt travel, and annoy others.![]()
Or maybe pictures of tumoured lungs should be slapped in bold colour on the packets? Just a thought...Maybe less people would smoke if the smoking age was raised 21 or something like that (as in the US?)
Silly cows probably worried about their weight. At my college, you were allowed to smoke outside - mostly it seemed to be the girls that did it for some reason, not sure why
The idea of putting more graphic images on the packets as opposed to the big "Smoking kills" warning has been toyed with. isnt this done in Australia?
You may be right, girls appear to think smoking keeps them thin, which is of course bollocks...

To everyone you mean?
Wouldnt this require intervetion from the Government to make it illegal?
Romero once you become addicted to something, it is extremely diifficult to stop. Did you know nicotine is as addictive as heroin?
I'm sure your mother is comforted by those words Romero
As Tom says, it IS very hard to stop once you start as you become psychological dependant. She needs your help and support. If its so easy to stop, why dont we see millions quit just like that?

Its addictive is it, who cares!I know I dont, just stop, its there own fault anyway for starting.
and yes it NEEDS to be made illegal, thats what I was saying! but that will never ever happen in our life times as they get soo much cash from this death drug of pain and suffering!
Personally I say if you smoke and get ill, YOU PAY FOR ALL HOSPITAL FEES! or die!
then see who has the last laff! pay out your own pockets morons! and dont even use the tax from the death sticks for it either, pay out your own pockets not mine!
and my Mother is a ignorant fool! so is everyone else who smokes, why speak nice about them? no reason to, they know what is going to happen, they should stop, THE END.
Am I suposed to thank my mother for killing herself and everyone around her! fuck that!
If I play with a gun with 1 bullet in it, one day it will kill me I am not fucking stupid enuff to do that. Smokers are, and they wine about addiction like little children, its an excuse, you dont need them and all you have to do is stop! you wont die! its because most people want to smoke that they do it, very few have an addiction at all.

Of course not "thank her" Romero, but its your own mother FFS!
I'm sorry, but are you this abrasive in real life to members of your family? I can tell you that if one of my friends/family smoked and got cancer, I'd want to help/support them all I could, not say "Fuck it, its your own fault!"
When did yor mother start? Its possible when she did the dangers werent publicised?
That is all.

All she needs to do is stop, its not in my hands in any way.
People who smoke only think of themselves and they are sad, ignorant fools.
If the government banned the death sticks then I wouldnt be having this pathetic discusion.
If the government made killing people with guns legal tommrow, would you rush out and do it! no you wouldnt! exactly the same thing.

No need for you to appologise at all, I am a crazy git on the net as nothing really can heppen to me on here, in real life its harder to say these things constructivly in words.
So its not aimed at anyone in particuar, just smokers and the goverment in general, as I know nice smokers too its just a bloody shame they smoke and nothing I will ever say will stop them, but boy I do try.

As an ex smoker I would say that it is neither easy nor difficult to give up, if that's possible. The actual giving up is not too difficult, but gathering up and maintain enough will power is the hardest part. Many smokers are put off trying because they think it will be too difficult. They come with with lots of excuses like 'it's not the right time', 'It's my only pleasure/vice' etc.
I gave up after 14 years. No patches. No drugs. No gum. No hypnosis. Pure will power. Will power is the only thing you need to give up. All the other things may help, but there's no magic cure.
My sons mother has tried all sorts to stop smoking but to no avail. I've lost count of the times she's said "The doctor told me I shouldn't give up. I'm too stressed. It's not a good time." She wants something that will stop her smoking, rather than take responsibility and stop herself from smoking.
When I gave up I decided to on the spur of the moment. I had ceased to enjoy smoking some years earlier, but the addiction had me in it's grasp. One evening I had enough baccy for one more roll up before bed. I thought "Shall I save this til the morning, so I can have one before I stroll down to the shop to get some more?" (My addiction gland was in a quandary. I need a fix now, but that will make the next fix even further away.) "Or shall I have this one now and see how I get on with having a go at giving from tomorrow?" And guess what? Here I am, 7 years on and free of fags and enjoying tastes and smells and not coughing and getting out of breath and bringing up phlegm and not stinking. See, I knew if I'd saved that last one til the morning I'd just carry on smoking. So I made the decision and I stuck to it. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't so hard either. Instead of 'one day at a time' I took it 'one fag at a time' or rather 'one craving, or one time of the day or situation where I'd normally reach for a fag at a time'. And after a little while it started getting a little easier and a little easier, and I'd start to feel a little better and more confident which in turn made it easier still.
So Romero, it's not as easy to do as it is to say, but you are right in as much as it's down to the individual to make the decision and stick to it.
I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. If she is beyond help then let her enjoy her remaining time. I'm sure she knows that she has brought it upon herself and feels terrible for doing it to not only herself but all those who care about her too. Don't give her a hard time about it.

Ah but Romero, DEATH takes you anyways! And as Dennis said, smoking takes away 10 years of your life? The ten worst! The last ones at the old folks home wearing diapers
Anyways, as you probably surmised from my first post in this thread I really don't condone of smoking... and as I know 6 smokers, and they all quit (though one is know chewing - he doesn't bother me
) I'd say that it probably is not so hard to quit.
