I suspect over the Fox vs. HKL the Fox is a given to win but it has dubtitles. Doesn't the Fox have the Original Mono?

The HKL reportedly has a poor Cantonese DD2.0 mix (poor as it's not very good, not because it's not a remix). With a English DD5.1 too. I went for the Fox (tis a lovely transfer). I'll get the HKL for the extras one day.

We now have a BnB DVD Comparisons database (sort of).
I didn't know we had done so many comparisons. :o

Oh I wasn't looking at the first post that's what you mean. Great idea. Are you going to maintain it?

Also takes you there too, which is the proper first post of this thread, weird.

Thx.

Yeah.
2 or 3 proper comparisons per week... shouldn't be too hard.

The current New Line release? I heard there was a possible R1 SE release down the line.

Aye Grim, the current disc.

Not heard any news of a new R1. Could this be due to the new film coming out? Got any links?

Tom I think you need to redo this mate.

Several correct comparisons ('Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin') seem to be at the right resolution/frame but not included. Whilst 'Secret Rivals 2' is well off, but included.

Are my 640x480 images allowed despite the circumstances? 'Heart of Dragon' Universe DVD is part of that.

Can you please figure out what's wrong with my 'Dragon Fist' comparison? The images have been lifted from 'Spiritual Kung Fu' and 'Shaolin Wooden Men'.

Keung, I made post about a possible SE here - apparently New Line are "exploring the possibility of a improved transfer and bonus materials" according to a DVD Talk post, maybe it will be released when the new film is out as you say. I definitely upgrade if it was a proper SE though.

If the current R1 is put up can it be compared with the Medusa/HKL R2?

@Chenlung:

Weird. I'm sure I had put SCAOS in the database.
But I haven't double-checked the list (not enough time on my hands).

Anyway, thanks for telling me.
I've added it now.
Whilst 'Secret Rivals 2' is well off, but included.
That's for one simple reason:
The difference in picture quality is so huge that you don't need to have the exact same frame to tell which is best.
Are my 640x480 images allowed despite the circumstances? 'Heart of Dragon' Universe DVD is part of that.
HoD was a proper comparison before you screwed it up with your 640x pics. :D
Anyway, your caps are so blurry that using 720x ones wouldn't do much good.

Let's say that in some cases I'm allowing them for reference only.
Can you please figure out what's wrong with my 'Dragon Fist' comparison?
I'm afraid that's your fault. :D

Lemme explain:
-You posted the Dragon Fist comparison.
-The first Eastern Heroes pic was called "Eastern Heroes - 1.jpg"
-Then you did the Spiritual Kung-Fu comparison.
-And you've called the first cap "Eastern Heroes - 1.jpg"

There can't be two files with the same name in the same folder.
By uploading the new ones, you've erased the old ones.

Sorry dude. The only thing you can do is re-upload them (with another name, this time) or hang yourself.

Not a fair comparison regardless (just like the 640 images).
HoD was a proper comparison before you screwed it up with your 640x pics. :D
If you had gotten your initial frames right, it would have been.

With regards to the 'Dragon Fist' comparison, I believe they were all fine earlier in the week.

and what do you mean by "hang yourself"? Just watch what you say please.

I'm sure that's dry humour but regardless probably best to use smilies.

@Chenlung:

How come no-one understands what I'm saying today ? :|
what do you mean by "hang yourself"?
Lots of hard work... wasted.
Old caps... disappeared.

Will you find the strength to do them all over again ?
Or will you give up ?

Does anyone have the Legacy or Ultimate R1 Planet of the Apes box set?

I want to know if the New Remastered R1 DVDs look really any better compared against the UK R2 box set versions?

The UK R2 were already anamorphic so they're not Remastered but for R1 they got new prints (plus DD5.1 and the longer cut for the last film). I can only find reviews comparing the new with old R1 box set, which means little to me when the old R1 box set was rubbish.

Tom, could you please make a database for the various non-comparison screen capture reviews that we've done (including stuff which ain't classed as "fair comparisons", like Chen's VCD vs. DVD ones)? Thanks.

I have the following Bonds, new UE and old SE:

Spy who loved me
View to a kill
Diamonds are forever
Man with the golden gun
Living Daylights

Any special requests?
By mid-December when the others come out I'll have comparisons for all 20 R1 UEs.

Also, tomorrow I'll get a copy of Home Alone so I'll probably post some caps for that as well.
